Nationwide most important platform for Turkish-German film exchange
The Film Festival Turkey/Germany in Nuremberg is the most important nationwide platform for intercultural exchange between Turkish and German film. Since the early 1990s, it has curated a dense program of feature films, short films, retrospectives, and special series, showcasing the diversity of contemporary Turkish and German-Turkish film production.
Three competitions are at the heart of the festival: the feature film competition, the short film competition, and the Öngören Prize for Democracy and Human Rights. The latter honors films that particularly engage with issues of democracy, human rights, and social justice.
The FFTD utilizes four venues within Nuremberg's KunstKulturQuartier: the Filmhaus Nürnberg, the KommKino, the Tafelhalle, and CineCittà. This geographical concentration makes the festival a focused experience in Nuremberg's city center – allowing attendees to easily move between venues and catch multiple screenings per day.
With its 2026 edition, the Film Festival Turkey/Germany celebrates its 30th anniversary. Over the years, the festival has honored luminaries such as Mario Adorf, Haluk Bilginer, and Zülfü Livaneli, becoming an institutional anchor for Turkish-German film culture in Germany.
For its 30th anniversary, the Film Festival Turkey/Germany returns to Nuremberg from February 27th to March 8th, 2026. Four venues – Filmhaus, KommKino, Tafelhalle, and CineCittà – will host a rich festival program. The feature film competition, short film competition, and the Öngören Prize for Democracy and Human Rights are central highlights.
The sections include the opening film, the feature film competition, the short film competition, "Filmlandschaften" (Film Landscapes), and special events featuring actors like Haluk Bilginer and filmmakers like Zülfü Livaneli. The complete program will be published on fftd.net before the festival begins.
The detailed schedule and award winners will be communicated before the festival on fftd.net and via the newsletter.
Take an ICE/IC train to Nuremberg Central Station, then a short walk to the KunstKulturQuartier (Filmhaus/KommKino/Tafelhalle) and CineCittà.
Tickets are available via the festival website fftd.net and at the box offices of the venues. The detailed program and festival pass will be released in the weeks leading up to the event.
