Feuchtwanger Mooswiese
Traditional Wiesenkirchweih in Feuchtwangen's 'Fifth Season'
2026
About Mooswiese
Mooswiese — edition 2026
The 2026 edition is confirmed by the City of Feuchtwangen and the Bavarian Tourism Association (veranstaltungen.erlebe.bayern, tourismus-feuchtwangen.de). Both sources indicate September 25–29 as the festival period; the pattern (weekend plus following Monday and Tuesday) aligns with the centuries-old tradition of the Wiesenkirchweih.
The detailed daily program — music bands in the beer tents, exact time of the opening parade, route of the grand parade, list of participating clubs and traditional costume groups — will be published by the City of Feuchtwangen during the summer (typically from August onwards on tourismus-feuchtwangen.de).

A Meadow Fair with Centuries of History
The Feuchtwanger Mooswiese is among the most traditional and largest Wiesenkirchweihen (meadow fairs) in Franconia. What began centuries ago as a Kirchweih (church consecration fair) with market rights has developed over generations into a comprehensive Volksfest (public festival) — today featuring beer and wine tents, a large amusement park with rides, an agricultural machinery exhibition of regional importance, and an extensive market. The Mooswiese is considered the 'fifth season' in Feuchtwangen's self-perception: inseparably interwoven with the city's annual rhythm.
Five Days of Festival Program
The Mooswiese typically runs from Friday evening to Tuesday evening — five days with a different focus each day. The opening parade on Friday kicks off the festival, on Saturday the traditional Pflasterwalzer with Schützenzug (marksmen's parade) — a Franconian specialty where the Pflasterwalze (the symbol of stonemasonry) is pulled through the city center to the Mooswiese, accompanied by marksmen, traditional costume groups, and music bands. On Sunday, the grand parade with floats and groups from Feuchtwangen and the surrounding area takes place. On Tuesday evening, a grand closing fireworks display concludes the Mooswiese.
Amusement Park and Beer Tents
Several large beer tents with Franconian beers and music programs, as well as a wine tent with Franconian wines from nearby Tauberfranken and the Main region, are located on the Mooswiese. The amusement park offers about 30–40 rides and stalls — from classic roller coasters and haunted houses to bumper cars and modern thrill rides. The third focus: a large market area with stalls selling household goods, tools, sweets, and clothing.
The Agricultural Machinery Exhibition
The agricultural machinery exhibition at the Mooswiese is a special feature that distinguishes the festival from a typical city Volksfest. In a dedicated area of the festival grounds, regional and national agricultural technology dealers present the latest generation of tractors, combine harvesters, plows, and attachments. The exhibition attracts its own audience from the agriculturally dominated districts of Ansbach, Würzburg, and Neustadt an der Aisch — and also makes the Mooswiese a showcase of agricultural prowess.
Feuchtwangen and the Festival City
Feuchtwangen is a medium-sized town in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia, located on the Romantic Road between Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl. The town is known for its Kreuzgangspiele (cloister games) — one of the most significant open-air theater summer festivals in Southern Germany, held every summer in the cloister of the collegiate church. The Mooswiese is its autumn counterpart: not high culture like the Kreuzgangspiele, but popular and traditional.
