Christmas bazaar in the border town of Lage on the 1st Saturday of Advent with shuttle bus to Neuenhaus and Esche
Lage belongs to the municipality of Neuenhaus and is located directly on the Dutch border, on the river Dinkel. Its location shapes community life with cross-border contacts and Dutch Advent customs.
The Christmas market takes place in the town center and brings together stalls from local exhibitors, artisans, and associations. Mulled wine, bratwurst, coffee, waffles, and advent pastries accompany the market visit. The family-friendly atmosphere is typical of smaller village Christmas markets in the region.
Traditionally, the market takes place on the 1st Saturday of Advent. It complements the parallel markets in Neuenhaus and Esche, which open their doors on the same weekend.
A special feature of the 1st Advent weekend in the Niedergrafschaft is the shuttle bus connection that links the markets in Lage, Esche, and Neuenhaus. Visitors can thus visit several markets in one day and get to know the regional Advent landscape.
As with many village markets in the region, local associations are the main organizers of the event. Sports clubs, heritage societies, fire departments, and other organizations jointly host the festival, creating an opportunity for community interaction that strengthens the village spirit.
The shuttle bus connection creates a dense Advent offering in the Niedergrafschaft Bentheim on the 1st Advent weekend.
The complete program for 2026 will be published by the local community association in due course.
