Homeland. Soil. Wine. – the exclusive wine event of the Rheingau
The Fête Terroir is one of the most prestigious wine events in the Rheingau – and fundamentally differs from the cliché of a folk wine festival on the Rhine. Organized by Rheingauer Weinwerbung und Tourismus Rheingau, the format presents over 50 winemakers from the renowned wine region in the elegant setting of the baroque Schloss Biebrich in Wiesbaden. It is a salon, tasting, and club night all in one.
The venue is the west wing of Schloss Biebrich, the magnificent summer residence of the Dukes of Nassau on the banks of the Rhine. The historic halls of the palace are spread over two floors, which are divided into three theme zones for the Fête Terroir: Terroir Blanc for Rieslings and white wines, Terroir Rouge for robust red wines, mainly from Pinot Noir, and Terroir Brillant for sparkling wines.
Participating winemakers range from established VDP stars like Weingut Allendorf to younger estates embarking on their first salon tour. The motto "Homeland. Soil. Wine." is not just a slogan: the winemakers explicitly present their single-vineyard wines and explain the soil conditions that have made Rheingau Riesling world-class. Schist, loess, quartzite – anyone leaving the Fête Terroir will have completed a geological tour of the right bank of the Rhine.
In addition to the winemaker stands, two guided tastings are held, which can be booked separately. The Rarities Tasting is moderated by Ulrich Allendorf and contrasts selected Rheingau rarities with French wine specialties – a deliberate comparison between the Rheingau and Bordeaux/Burgundy. The Young Winemakers' Tasting introduces the newcomer generation, accompanied by a hearty snack of regional specialties.
What sets the Fête Terroir apart from a classic wine salon is the musical staging of the evening. From 9 p.m., the Urban Club Mini Band takes over with funk, soul, and rock. After the live set, DJ Daniel Fischer spins house and disco beats. The audience transitions from concentrated tasting to dancing shoes – a deliberate dramatic shift that has made Fête Terroir a favorite event of the Rhine-Main wine scene.
Wiesbaden is not only the state capital of Hesse but also the westernmost city of the Rheingau. Schloss Biebrich is located directly on the Rhine, within sight of Mainz Cathedral. This location makes the palace a natural interface between the city and the wine region. Fête Terroir uses this interface dramatically: while ships pass by outside, a program runs inside that stages the Rheingau as a contemporary wine region – not as a nostalgic legacy.
The 2026 edition once again focused on the Rheingau terroir. Reception from 5:30 p.m., tasting starts at 6:30 p.m., live concert from 9 p.m., DJ set afterwards. As in previous years, the event was largely sold out, with a maximum capacity of around 650 guests, who can appreciate the elegant atmosphere of the palace.
Strolling Ticket €75 (all drinks included), Young Winemakers' Tasting €95 (sparkling wine and snack), Rarities Tasting €139 (premium tasting with delicacies). Advance sales were possible until shortly before the event.
By train: Wiesbaden Central Station or Wiesbaden-Biebrich Station, then bus or a 15-minute walk. By car: A66 or A671, exit Wiesbaden-Biebrich. Parking at the palace is limited – public transport recommended.
Three ticket categories (as of 2026): Strolling Ticket €75 (all drinks included), Young Winemakers' Tasting €95 (sparkling wine and snack), Rarities Tasting €139 (premium tasting with delicacies). Advance sales via rheingau.com/fete-terroir, Tourist Info Wiesbaden, and at the box office depending on availability.
For the full experience: be there punctually at 5:30 p.m. for the reception, attend both tastings, and stay for the band in the evening. If you "just" want to stroll: the Strolling Ticket is enough – the winemakers have time for conversations until the band starts.
