Country Sound by the Reservoir

The Erzgebirge region boasts many folk festivals (Volksfeste), mining parades, and Christmas markets (Weihnachtsmärkte) — and once a year, a country music festival. Country am Teich has been held in Geyer since 2019, a small town of around 3,600 inhabitants in the Erzgebirgskreis district, situated at an altitude of 615 meters. The venue is the Greifenbachstauweiher (also known as Geyrischer Teich) — a historic reservoir created for former mining operations, now serving as a recreational, swimming, and event area.

October 3, 2026 — 7th Edition

The 7th edition will take place on October 3, 2026 — German Unity Day. The public holiday makes the date attractive for families and country fans from the entire region. Country bands and solo artists from Saxony and beyond will present a program featuring classic country, bluegrass, Western swing, and sometimes modern country. The format is accessible: performances are not compensated, admission is free, and the event thrives on the dedication of the bands and the atmosphere by the reservoir.

Western Flair in the Erzgebirge

The festival strives for a Western atmosphere: a simple wooden stage with banners and wagon wheels, campfire stations, cowboys hats and boots in the audience, a Western saloon bar serving beer and whiskey. The blend of Erzgebirge nature and American Western style is unique — and constitutes the festival's charm. Families can find picnic spots by the reservoir, country dance fans have space in front of the stage, and for the cooler early October weather, there are blankets, mulled wine (Glühwein), and campfires.

Greifenbachstauweiher — Historic Natural Backdrop

The Greifenbachstauweiher is one of Central Europe's oldest reservoirs — built in the early 16th century to supply the Erzgebirge mining industry with water power. Today, it is a popular lake for swimming and hiking, surrounded by forests, rocks, and hiking trails. The festival optimally utilizes the natural amphitheater shape of the reservoir's bank — creating an intimate, direct atmosphere where artists and audience feel closely connected.

Saxony, Erzgebirge, and Geyer

Geyer is an old mining town in the Erzgebirgskreis district, with a history dating back to the 13th century. Mining for tin and iron shaped the town for centuries. Today, it thrives primarily on tourism — attracting hikers, skiers in winter, and families from the region. Country am Teich is among the more distinctive events in the Erzgebirge's summer and autumn calendar. Those who come once usually return — the combination of country music, nature, and a relaxed atmosphere is addictive.
