Three days of Mosel, wine, and castles in the historic marketplace between Niederburg and Oberburg
Kobern-Gondorf is a double village on the Untermosel in the Mayen-Koblenz district with a special historical substance. The ruins of Niederburg castle and Oberburg castle with the 13th-century Romanesque St. Matthias Chapel – one of the few Romanesque central buildings in Germany and an important architectural monument of the Rhineland – tower above the village. The medieval castle ruins, the Mosel river, and the vineyards form a spectacular backdrop for the annual Wine and Castle Festival.
The 2026 festival takes place from July 3rd to 5th – Friday to Sunday. The venue is the historic marketplace in the Kobern district, which, with its half-timbered houses and St. Lubentius parish church, is one of the most beautiful squares on the Middle Mosel. The combination of a wine festival, medieval architecture, and Mosel atmosphere is what makes it so appealing.
The focus is on the Mosel wines from local vintners. The renowned Weingut Dötsch-Haupt from Kobern, one of the traditional estates of the Untermosel, is the main organizer and will have a large wine stand on site. The Weinfreunde Kobern-Gondorf – an association that cultivates local wine culture – organizes the program together with the winery.
Offerings include wine tastings featuring Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Elbling, and the red varieties of the Untermosel, regional culinary specialties (Mosel salmon, escargots, Eifel cheese, hearty delicacies), live music with regional bands on all three festival days, and guided tours through the vineyards and to St. Matthias Chapel. Sunday typically features a Frühschoppen (morning pint) and a family program.
Anyone who can should not miss the ascent to St. Matthias Chapel – the path leads through the vineyards and offers one of the most beautiful views of the Untermosel. Kobern-Gondorf is easily accessible by the Mosel railway (Kobern-Gondorf station) and is ideally located for day trips from Koblenz.
The 2026 edition is organized by Weingut Dötsch-Haupt and Weinfreunde Kobern-Gondorf. Program details will be communicated via the organizers' websites and kobern-gondorf.de.
