Over 150 free concerts on 29 stages on the international music day
The Fête de la Musique was founded in 1982 in France by then-Minister of Culture Jack Lang and has taken place worldwide every year on June 21 – the summer solstice – ever since. The concept is simple and politically radical: Musicians play for free, the audience listens for free. Today, over 700 cities in 120 countries participate in this day of action. Halle (Saale) has been part of it since 2007 and has become one of the most important German locations.
In 2026, over 150 performances will be spread across 29 stages throughout the entire city of Halle, from Neustadt to Südstadt, from Kröllwitz to HeideNord. Venues range from the market square and the Galgenbergschlucht gorge to the Peißnitzinsel island and the promenade along the Saale river, as well as the Schwemme-Brauerei – an established cultural and creative hub. The musical spectrum is deliberately boundless: World Music, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Choirs, Drum'n'Bass, Electronic Dance Music, Indie, Pop, Alternative Live Acts – amateur and professional musicians, performers, and DJs share the stage.
Halle (Saale) is the largest city in Saxony-Anhalt and one of the most vibrant student cities in Central Germany. The Fête de la Musique fits this identity: it is not high-brow and elitist, but open, participatory, and intergenerational. For one day, it turns the city center and residential areas into a huge open-air concert.
The organizer for many years has been the association kreanativ e.V., which organizes the festival with over 30 cooperation partners from the music industry, social urban work, and subculture. Volunteer commitment is the DNA of the Fête – without the hundreds of helpers, the format would not be possible.
The 2026 edition builds on the tradition that has grown in Halle since 2007. The 29 stages are spread across all important squares in the city center as well as several outdoor locations: Peißnitzinsel as a green concert island, Schwemme-Brauerei as a cultural and creative hub, the promenade along the Saale river, and the districts of Neustadt, Südstadt, Kröllwitz, and HeideNord. Over 150 bands, solo artists, choirs, and DJs share the stages.
The exact stage and acts program for 2026 will be published in early June by kreanativ e.V. on fete-halle.de – with an interactive map of the stages and a timeline of all acts.

Completely free – this is the concept of the worldwide Fête de la Musique.
