Classical music and jazz of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the Hanseatic city
Since 1990, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been one of Germany's major classical music festivals. Every summer, a dense program of well over a hundred concerts rings out at around ninety venues throughout the state – in barns, castles, churches, and museums. The Hanseatic city of Stralsund is also a permanent fixture of this musical tour.
In Stralsund, the festival focuses on unusual venues that provide a unique setting for the music:
This combination of music and location is a hallmark of the festival: attending a concert also means experiencing a piece of the city's and cultural history.
The Stralsund festival program appeals to a broad audience. Family concerts with a theatrical flair engage young listeners, while jazz concerts with up-and-coming ensembles showcase the festival's stylistic diversity.
The UNESCO World Heritage Hanseatic city of Stralsund, located in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, is the gateway to the island of Rügen and an attractive destination during the festival summer. The concerts of the Festspiele MV invite you to experience classical music and jazz in inspiring locations on the Baltic coast.
As part of the 2026 festival summer, featuring around 120 concerts at 90 venues in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will make two stops in Stralsund. On June 20 at 4 PM, the Hanke Brothers will present the family concert »Vier Brüder, tausend Töne – eine verrückte Zeitreise« (suitable for ages 6 and up, family packages from 10 Euros) at the STiC-er Theater. On July 29 at 7 PM, the Nils Kugelmann Trio will perform a jazz concert at the Deutsches Meeresmuseum, bringing groovy rhythms and melodic depth to the modern museum architecture.
Family packages for the family concert start at 10 Euros. Tickets available through the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Stralsund is accessible by train (main station) and via the A20 motorway. The venues are located within the city.
Tickets are available through the central ticket office of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; family packages are available for family concerts.
A concert visit can be well combined with exploring Stralsund's old town.
