Concerts in the Baroque Monastery Hall

The Festive Concerts in the Baroque Hall Walderbach are one of the most traditional classical concert series in the northern Oberpfalz. It is jointly supported by the District of Cham and the Municipality of Walderbach, in cooperation with the Gasthof-Hotel Rückerl and with the support of the District of Upper Palatinate and the local savings bank. The venue is the magnificently appointed Baroque Hall of the former Cistercian convent of Walderbach – a room with its own acoustics and ceiling frescoes that Otto Gebhard created in 1765/70.

Eight Concerts in 2026

The 2026 program includes eight very different concert evenings, which together represent a broad spectrum of classical and genre-related music:

• March 14, 2026: Viola and piano with Terhi Dostal – Finnish tradition meets classical repertoire
• April 25, 2026: Concerto Balsamico – Best of Baroque and Blue – Baroque and jazz in dialogue
• May 16, 2026: Zither Orchestra Ostbayern – Folk music meets concert hall format
• June 6, 2026: Duo Gruber – Works by Kurt Weill in chamber music interpretation
• October 3, 2026: Junges Kammerorchester (JKO) – Chamber orchestra evening
• October 24, 2026: Clarinet and strings – Mozart and Brahms in a double portrait
• November 21, 2026: Lehra und mehra – choral program
• December 26, 2026: Piano recital with Elena Nesterenko – Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, and Debussy

The Baroque Hall Walderbach

The former Cistercian convent of Walderbach is located on the west bank of the Regen river in the district of Cham, on the edge of the Bavarian Forest. It was founded in the 12th century and baroqueized in the 18th century. The festival hall with its Gebhard frescoes has since been one of the most beautiful concert halls in the Oberpfalz. The acoustics are particularly suited for chamber music – solo and duo ensembles, string and wind ensembles, and small orchestras. Over thirty years of concert series have secured Walderbach a firm place in the eastern Bavarian classical music scene.

Organizing Partnership

The Cultural Department of the District of Cham is responsible for the organization and program design, in close cooperation with the municipality of Walderbach. The associated Gasthof-Hotel Rückerl offers accommodation and restaurant services, often turning concert visits into weekends in the Bavarian Forest.
