Music and Instrument Making
The vielsaitig Chamber Music Festival has been held in Füssen in the Ostallgäu district since 2003. It is dedicated to the city's historical heritage as the cradle of European lute and violin making and the special relationship between instrument making and music – a profile that makes the festival unique in the German music scene.
The Kaisersaal in St. Mang Monastery
The venue is the baroque Kaisersaal in the former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang at Lechhalde 3. In the magnificent rooms, which today also house the city museum with a high-quality collection of Füssen instruments, chamber music unfolds with a special effect. The historical setting connects sound, history, and craftsmanship.
Artistic Direction and Ensembles
The artistic director is the renowned cellist Julian Steckel. He has appointed the internationally acclaimed Leonkoro Quartet as Quartet in Residence. Eight concerts, a musical tea time, three lectures, and the "Geigenbau Meeting Point" form a dense program that combines classical and new music, old and jazz.
Festival with Profile
With changing themes – "Spielräume" (Spaces for Play) in 2026 – the festival sets thematic accents each year. It attracts a discerning audience from the Allgäu, the Lake Constance region, and beyond, strengthening Füssen as a cultural hub on the Romantic Road and in the King's Corner.
