Festival «Über uns und uns hinaus» Rodenäs/Neukirchen

A Cultural Encounter on the Wiedau Bay

The festival «Über uns und uns hinaus» is one of the rare projects where the village church, an artists' initiative, and the community come together for a two-week cultural program. The organizers are the Kulturstation Zollhäuser and the Church of Rodenäs, supported by the nationwide «Dorfkirche. Mon amour» initiative, which aims to strengthen rural sacral buildings as cultural venues.

What Makes the Festival Special

Over two weeks, various forms of events alternate, all following the festival motto — the question of what reaches beyond ourselves: spiritually, artistically, literarily.

• Exhibition Opening «Über sich hinaus» on May 15 with works by Thomas Nielsen — realistic portraits on abstract forms
• Concert «Klangporträts» on May 16 with Constance Vogel (piano), Frøya Gildberg (soprano), Ansgar Hüning (baritone)
• Art Service «Mit all deinen Farben» on May 17
• Literary Evening «Und fertig ist das Angesicht» on May 28 with Bettina Knauer
• The exhibition is open daily from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM throughout the festival

• St. Dionysius Church Rodenäs — a historic brick building, venue for services and concerts
• Kulturstation Zollhäuser, Norddeich 4 — the location for the exhibition and literary encounter

Rodenäs in the District of Nordfriesland

Rodenäs is a small coastal village with around 350 inhabitants on the North Frisian west coast, right on the Danish border, in the District of Nordfriesland. St. Dionysius Church dates back to the 13th century and is one of the oldest churches in North Frisia. The Kulturstation Zollhäuser was repurposed from a former customs clearance station and is now a remarkable cultural hub that makes the village known far beyond its size.
