Flensburg on the Förde
With just under 92,000 inhabitants, Flensburg is Germany's northernmost city, located directly on the Danish border and the Flensburg Fjord. A city with a vibrant harbour culture, an active subculture scene, and several dedicated associations focused on newcomer and indie music.
The KLANG Concept
The Kulturelle Machenschaften e.V. association has been organising the festival as a decentralised format for several years: there is no central main stage, but rather parallel concerts in clubs, cultural centres, off-spaces, backyards, workshops, and occasionally at the university. Over four days, around 40 acts perform — newcomers from North Germany and Scandinavia, indie bands, singer-songwriters, electronic music, and experimental formats.
What to Expect
- 4 festival days
- ~40 acts at various locations
- Free admission to concerts and workshops
- Focus on indie / newcomer / experimental formats
- Workshops for music production, songwriting, DJing — all year round
A Culture of Support, Not a Mega-Event
KLANG Festival is not a commercial event. It is a support format: newcomer acts get stages and audiences, and the audience gets a cross-section of the North German-Scandinavian indie scene. Those interested in music beyond the charts will find themselves here. The year-round workshops are also free — a stand against the cultural desolation of small and medium-sized towns.
