About Nordklang

In June, the Hafenfestival Nordklang transforms Flensburg's East Harbour into an open-air stage by the water. For several weekends, Scandinavian and North German bands present their programmes right on the fjord, with concerts on a permanently installed stage and – a novelty for 2026 – on a floating stage aboard a converted traditional sailing ship. The acoustic sets on Friday evenings are considered an insider tip in the North German festival scene and celebrate the musical proximity between Germany and the Scandinavian region.

Flensburg as a Gateway to Scandinavia

With its East Harbour on the inner fjord, Flensburg is so close to Denmark that the skyline of Sønderborg is visible across the water on some days. This geographical proximity shapes the Hanseatic city's cultural identity: Flensburg, a district-free city in the state of Schleswig-Holstein with around 90,000 inhabitants, is considered a gateway to Scandinavia. The Hafenfestival Nordklang has made this identity its programme.

Scandinavian-North German Sound Bridge

On the stages by the East Harbour, Scandinavian and North German bands mix – Indie, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, occasionally Jazz and Electronica. The musical spectrum is broad, the common denominator being the northern sound aesthetic: melodic, spacious, often melancholic. This fits the backdrop: the open water of the fjord, the warehouses by the harbour, the long summer evenings, which in Flensburg's northern location can stay light until 10 p.m.

Floating Stage as a Novelty for 2026

A special feature of the 2026 season: for the first time, there will be a floating stage on a converted traditional sailing ship. Up to 200 spectators can experience concerts on the ship, taking place directly on the water – a unique experience in the North German festival landscape. In good weather, the sailing ship will anchor in front of the East Harbour.

Acoustic Fridays

A tradition of the festival are the Friday evenings with acoustic sets by the water. Singer-songwriters, acoustic indie bands, and occasionally Nordic folk artists perform in an intimate atmosphere right at the harbour's edge – the atmosphere is often more intense than during the larger performances that the festival offers on Saturdays and Sundays. The concept has established itself in Schleswig-Holstein as an insider tip, with a growing audience and more buzz in the scene.

Nordklang — edition 2026

The Hafenfestival Nordklang 2026 will take place in June over several weekends at Flensburg's East Harbour. Scandinavian and North German bands will perform on the main stage and – a novelty for 2026 – on a floating stage aboard a converted traditional sailing ship. Acoustic sets on Friday evenings right by the water.

The 2026 season expands the festival concept with the floating stage. The programme and exact weekends will be announced before the festival. Bands from Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) and Northern Germany are expected.
