Italian gourmet festival on Maximiliansplatz with live music, Vespas, and Mediterranean cuisine
The Festa Italica Bamberg brings a week of Italian lifestyle to Maximiliansplatz (Maxplatz for short) in Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2026, the third edition runs from June 3rd to 7th – coinciding with Corpus Christi and the following bridge day, traditionally making for a long festive Friday.
Italian bands and solo artists will provide the atmosphere on stage over five festival days:
Festa Italica focuses on authentic Italian gastronomy: Pizza, Pasta, Arancini, Antipasti, Italian wines, Aperol Spritz, and Espresso. Classic Vespa scooters and three-wheeled Ape vans will be used as decoration – along with old wine presses, the setup creates a Mediterranean piazza atmosphere in the heart of the Upper Franconian bishop's city.
The event is organized by Stadtmarketing Bamberg e.V. together with Zametzer & Krohn GbR, an event company specializing in Italian gourmet festivals from Middle Franconia. The concept was previously established successfully in Nuremberg and has been part of Bamberg's event calendar since 2024.
Bamberg, an Upper Franconian bishop's city in the Bamberg district, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993. The medieval old town with its Bergstadt, Inselstadt, and Gärtnerstadt attracts millions of visitors each year. Maximiliansplatz, with its fountain and Maxbrücke, is one of the central squares and a preferred location for city festivals and markets.
The combination of an Italian festival format and the Franconian city backdrop is what makes Festa Italica special: Bamberg guests meet Italian exhibitors, regional shooting associations appear on the festival Sunday, and tourists mingle in the typically summery aperitivo atmosphere.
Organizers: Stadtmarketing Bamberg e.V. & Zametzer & Krohn GbR. Free admission.

Bamberg is on the Nuremberg–Berlin high-speed train line (Hauptbahnhof Bamberg). From the station to Maximiliansplatz is about a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride on Stadtwerke buses. By car, take the A70 (Bamberg–Bayreuth) and A73 (Bamberg–Suhl); central parking garages include Geyerswörth, Konzerthalle, Schönleinsplatz.
Free admission. Food and drink prices are at Italian festival levels – pizza, pasta, and Aperol drinks at market-standard prices.
Corpus Christi Thursday (June 4th) is a public holiday in Bavaria – making it particularly busy, especially with the following bridge day. Recommended: Reserve a spot on Maxplatz at lunchtime or visit on the festival Sunday with the shooting associations' reception. Bamberg invites you to extend your stay: take a tour of the old town, see the Bamberger Reiter in the cathedral, or try Rauchbier (smoked beer) at one of the breweries.
