Seven Weeks of Berlin Winter between the Palace Replica and Spree Terraces
The Winter Market Schlossplatz is located at one of Berlin's most iconic addresses: directly in front of the Humboldt Forum, the cultural building opened in 2020 that reconstructs the historic facade of the Berlin City Palace. Between the baroque facade and the Spree river, a winter market is created every year from mid-November to early January, making it one of the newer, yet stylistically most distinctive, destinations of the Berlin Advent season.
The unique selling point of the Winter Market is the laser show “Capital Laser Berlin". On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm in the Schlüterhof and at 8 pm on the Spree Terraces, light, light synchronization, and sound are combined into a spectacle that utilizes the palace facade and the waterscape of the Spree. The show was developed by Berlin lighting specialist Boehlke. It is free and a must-see for every visit.
Unlike the rustic Christmas markets at Gendarmenmarkt, the Winter Market Schlossplatz offers a mix of classic winter market staples and curated Berlin specialties. The Spree Terrace — a heated seating area directly on the water — serves Berlin cuisine and set menus. At the stalls, you'll find candied almonds and the in-house “Berliner Feuerzangenbowle", a flaming sugarloaf version of the hot beverage.
The market offers children's programs, a handicraft exhibition, and video mapping animations on the facade. Groups of 10 or more can reserve exclusive areas for mulled wine and food; Christmas parties can be booked at Café Alexander & Brasserie Wilhelm. Inquiries should be sent to [email protected].
Unlike most Berlin Christmas markets, which close by December 23rd at the latest, the Winter Market Schlossplatz remains open until January 3, 2027 — perfect for enjoying mulled wine even between the years. It is only closed on November 22nd (Totensonntag) and December 24th (Christmas Eve). Its location in Berlin-Mitte, within walking distance of Museum Island, the Cathedral, Brandenburg Gate, and Unter den Linden, makes it one of the most central addresses for Berlin's winter tourism.
The 2026/27 edition runs for seven weeks — from the third Wednesday in November until early January. The market is thus one of the longest-running winter markets in the city and remains open between the years. It is closed only on Totensonntag (November 22, 2026) and Christmas Eve (December 24, 2026).
Anyone wanting to experience mulled wine and the laser show in Berlin's historic center on Sunday, December 27th, or around New Year's Eve, will find one of the few open venues here. More than 100 stalls supply the market with handicrafts, candied almonds, Feuerzangenbowle, and Berlin street food.
The daily program for 2026 is set and will be communicated by the organizer Wollenschläger Berlin at wintermarkt-schlossplatz.de:
