Practical information — FERRA
Getting There
By car via the A620 (exit Völklingen) or the A8 (exit Saarbrücken-Klarenthal). Saarbrücken main station is 10 minutes away by S-Bahn — from there, take the S1 to Völklingen, then a 5-minute walk to the Hütte entrance. From France/Luxembourg, easily accessible via the TGV connection Paris-Saarbrücken.
Shuttles
HarderDates organizes shuttle buses from several major German cities. Reservations via the official website.
Tickets
Tickets available at ferra-festival.de. Day tickets, weekend passes, and VIP options will be released in stages. Early booking recommended.
Accommodation
Camping is not possible on the grounds — the Hütte is a UNESCO protected site. Hotels in Saarbrücken and Völklingen are the main option. PERMANENT ENTERTAINMENT cooperates with hostels and hotels in the region — advance booking 4–6 months ahead recommended.
Tip
Combine the festival weekend with a guided tour of the Völklinger Hütte before or after the festival — the World Heritage site is a different universe in daylight than at night.
One Hütte, One Festival, One New Era
If anything in Saarland radiates a mythical aura, it's the Völklinger Hütte: the only completely preserved ironworks from the heyday of industrialization, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994 as the world's first industrial monument. Here, where smoking steel once emerged between blast furnaces, gas blowers, and steel conveyor belts, the FERRA Festival will be christened from August 21st to 23rd, 2026 — a three-day major techno event that merges the monumental industrial backdrop with minimalist beats and laser installations.
From the DNA of HIVE
Behind FERRA is PERMANENT ENTERTAINMENT, an organizer group that is already among the big names in the German electronic scene with IKARUS, ECHELON, and Munich's ISLE OF SUMMER series. The HIVE Festival, which took place on the Hütte grounds from 2012 to 2019 and attracted up to 20,000 visitors, is considered a spiritual predecessor — FERRA is described as a "successor with expanded DNA." Up to 30,000 visitors are expected over three days.
Five Stages in Reinforced Concrete
The architecture of the Hütte is both a soundscape and a stage: 67 international artists will perform on five stages, spread across the entire World Heritage site — from the sintering plant and the blower hall to the outdoor areas between the blast furnaces. Genres range from Hard Techno (Nico Moreno, Charlie Sparks) and Industrial Trance to Bounce and Melodic House (Clara Cuvé). On Sunday, an open-air concert will round off the festival.
UNESCO World Heritage as a Stage
The Völklinger Hütte is more than just a venue: it is a symbol of structural change in Saarland. Where iron was smelted until 1986, today lies one of Europe's most spectacular industrial heritage backdrops. The Hütte will be completely closed to regular visitors during the festival weekend — the grounds belong solely to the ravers. Laser installations will transform the blast furnaces into pulsating sculptures, and the acoustics of the blower hall will turn bass into physical experiences.
Saarland in Festival Rhythm
FERRA is part of a broader techno upswing in Saarland. The greater region between Saarbrücken, Trier, and Luxembourg is considered a hotspot for electronic music, with clubs like KuBa, Studio 30, and Garage Saarbrücken. With FERRA, the scene gets a festival format on par with Time Warp, Mayday, or Awakenings — but in a unique setting that no other organizer can offer.
