A fairytale world for children between the rhododendron grove and the elf meadow
The Britzer Garten is one of Berlin's most beautiful city parks — created in 1985 for the Federal Garden Exhibition in Berlin, covering 90 hectares with a lake, themed garden areas, and the famous tulip season in April. In May, when the rhododendrons bloom and transform the park into a flowering forest, the park management organizes the Fairy Festival — one of Berlin's most popular family festivals for children aged 4 to 10.
Themed stations, each with its own character, are spread out along a designated circular path through the park:
Unlike commercial large-scale festivals in Berlin, the Fairy Festival focuses on a consistent narrative world. Children are not rushed from one station to another but can immerse themselves in the themes — the Dragon's Lair theatre lasts 45 minutes, the harp music set in the Dream Forest runs several times a day, and you can craft for up to an hour in the Gnome Workshop. This creates a focused, calmer atmosphere than at most Berlin children's festivals.
Alongside the stations, there's a small market with refreshments and fairy-themed merchandise: crocheted fairy wings, fabric dragons, wooden magic wands, and fairytale cards. Vendors are local craftspeople from Neukölln and Brandenburg.
The Fairy Festival takes place once in May or June. 2026: Sunday, May 17, 12–6 PM. Regular park admission covers the festival — no extra charge for the stations. Peak time is between 12 PM and 3 PM, with a slower wind-down afterwards.
The 2026 edition falls on a Sunday in May — perfect for a long family day with a picnic in the park and wandering between the fairytale stations. The organizer is Britzer Garten Grün Berlin GmbH, which manages the park as a public green space for the state of Berlin.
The venues are the rhododendron grove and the meadow near the Heidehof station (park railway stop), both in the southern part of the park. The individual stations are spread over an approximately 1 km circular route — easily manageable with children, even in strollers.
2026 Station Program (Main Attractions):
Small Market along the circular route: crocheted fairy wings, fabric dragons, fairytale cards, snacks and drinks from the park catering.
Arrival time for the full tour: between 12 PM and 2 PM. If you want to visit all stations, allow about three hours.
Included in park admission: Adults €3, concessions €2, family ticket €4 (2 adults + children), children under 6 free. Material fee in the Gnome Workshop and for swords in the Dwarf Village approx. €1–3 (optional). Market stalls: vendor prices.
Take the U6 subway line to Alt-Mariendorf, then bus 179 to the Britzer Garten entrance on Buckower Damm. Alternatively, take the U7 subway line to Britz-Süd, followed by a 10-minute walk. The park has several entrances — the Sangerhauser Weg entrance is closest to the Fairy Festival.

Fancy dress is encouraged — many children come dressed as fairies or knights. Bring a picnic; park catering is also available on-site. Wear sturdy shoes due to the park paths.
