The Baierwein-Museum's biggest annual festival in Bach an der Donau

About Federweißenfest Bach
Federweißenfest Bach — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Federweißenfest, as always, offers Federweißer from the museum's own vineyard and homemade onion cake. The event runs on Sunday afternoon from 1 PM to 5 PM and attracts regular visitors from the region between Regensburg and the Bavarian Forest, as well as many newcomers eager to start autumn with the Federweißenfest.
Since Federweißer cannot be transported (it continues to ferment and develops from sweet to dry in a few days), the festival is the only opportunity of the year to taste Baierwein in this form. The museum seeks helpers every year and welcomes donations of onion cake from the local community – a sign that the festival is firmly anchored in the village community.

Federweißer from the Danube Region
When the grapes are harvested in autumn, it only takes a few days for the first, slightly sparkling, milky-turbid Federweißer to emerge from the sweet must – an intermediate product between must and wine, which is considered an autumn classic in Southern Germany, often served with onion cake. In Bach an der Donau, a district of the municipality of Bach in the Regensburg district, the Baierwein-Museum presents Federweißer from its own vineyard every year – a drop with a long history. In 2026, the Federweißenfest will take place on Sunday, September 13, from 1 PM to 5 PM.
A Museum in the Old Wine Press House
The Baierwein-Museum is housed in a historic wine press house and documents the Bavarian winegrowing tradition, which dates back to Roman times. Bavaria was once an important wine-growing region: the Romans brought viticulture to the Danube, monasteries cultivated vines in the Middle Ages, and it was only the Little Ice Age that displaced wine in favor of beer. The museum tells this story with historical presses, barrels, tools, and documents – and proves with its small, still-existing own production that the tradition lives on.
Federweißer, Onion Cake, and Sociability
The Federweißenfest is the museum's largest and best-known festival. In the historic wine press house and the outdoor area, Federweißer is served in jugs – a slightly sparkling, milky-turbid experience that can only be truly enjoyed on-site (Federweißer is not transportable). Accompanied by homemade onion cake and snacks. A relaxed Sunday afternoon event of great regional importance.
Bach an der Donau – A Danube Valley Village
Bach an der Donau is located on the southern bank of the Danube east of Regensburg, nestled between the slopes of the Bavarian Forest and the Danube Knee. The slopes were once wine-growing land; the Baierwein-Museum preserves the memory of this forgotten history. A visit is worthwhile even without the festival – but if you combine the Federweißenfest with a Danube boat trip or a hike in the Bavarian Forest, a Sunday in September is perfectly planned.
