Four days of Volksfest on the market square in the Saarlouis district
The municipality of Ensdorf is located directly on the Saar river in the Saarlouis district. Shaped by mining – the Saar mine was in operation here until 2012 – the town has long maintained its folk festivals as a social glue. The Ensdorfer Kirmes on the market square is one of the annual highlights and attracts families from all over the region.
The Kirmes extends from the market square to the adjacent square, thus utilizing the entire town center. Rides such as bumper cars, a chain carousel, children's carousels, and skill games characterize the scene. Food is provided by classic Saarland snack stands: Bratwurst, fries with Lyoner sausage, fried fish, candied almonds, crêpes – and draft beer from Saarbrau.
As is customary for a Saarland Kirmes, a festival tent with evening events is part of the tradition. Cover bands, party music, 'Schoppenstunden' (hours of drinking wine) – a program that is more committed to popular appeal than to the avant-garde, but reliably fills the hall. Families come during the day, and in the evening, the younger and middle generations take over.
The Ensdorfer Kirmes is firmly anchored in the Saarland festival calendar: at the beginning of July, right after the first weeks of the holidays, with weather that is usually warm enough for open-air enjoyment on the banks of the Saar. The proximity to the Saar makes the location attractive: those who wish can combine their Kirmes visit with a walk along the water or a bike tour along the Saar Cycle Path.
The official announcement from the municipality promises "Four days of fun and atmosphere for young and old." As usual, the Kirmes begins on Saturday afternoon with the setup of the rides and the opening of the first food stalls. Sunday follows as the first major visitor day, with Monday and Tuesday expanding the program to include club and family activities.
Detailed program and artist information will be published in early summer 2026 at gemeinde-ensdorf.de.
