Eisenberg — Festival Week on the Whitsun Weekend
Eisenberg is located in the Saale-Holzland district in eastern Thuringia, about 25 kilometers east of Jena. This historic, bourgeois small town with around 10,000 inhabitants boasts a remarkable castle with a baroque palace church — and the castle ensemble becomes part of a city-wide Volksfest every year for the Mohrenfest. The name "Mohrenfest" refers to Eisenberg's city coat of arms, which depicts a Moor's head — an element from the town's medieval heraldry.
The Entire City Center Becomes a Festival Ground
The special feature of the Mohrenfest is its decentralization: instead of a single festival site, the event takes over the entire city center. The market square with the Town Hall, Steinweg as the main axis, Schlossgarten and Schlosshof around the baroque ensemble, and the Scheithof as an open-air dance floor — each area has its own stages, its own atmosphere, and its own audience. In 2026, the city will set up the popular wine village in the Schlossgarten, where entertainer "Mölli" will entertain guests on both evenings. The market square will become a concert stage in the evenings.
2026 — Three Days with a Program for All Generations
From Friday 5 PM until late Sunday evening, the Mohrenfest 2026 offers a diverse program: live concerts, fun runs, family activities, city history, a wine village, street food, and fairground attractions. The city of Eisenberg has already officially confirmed the 2026 program — including performances by AC/CZ (AC/DC Tribute), Stamping Feet, The Castle of Customs, as well as the traditional Bambinilauf for the youngest participants.
Saale-Holzland — A Volksfest Hotspot in Eastern Thuringia
In the state of Thuringia, Saale-Holzland district, the Mohrenfest is an important date in the Volksfest calendar. Bad Klosterlausnitz, Stadtroda, Bürgel — the entire region contributes visitors. The mix of historical scenery (Eisenberg Castle), live music, and Thuringian Volksfest culture makes the festival a fixed event on the last weekend of May.

Mohrenfest 2026 — The Entire City Center Celebrates
The 2026 program has been officially confirmed by the city of Eisenberg. Several stages, three days of programming, live music in various styles, and a decentralized festival concept that includes every corner of Eisenberg's city center. The market square becomes a large concert stage in the evenings, the Schlossgarten invites you to linger in the wine village, and guests dance in the Scheithof until late at night.
With the AC/DC tribute band AC/CZ, the festival brings a prominent cover band act in 2026, complemented by Stamping Feet (Rock/Pop) and The Castle of Customs. The traditional Bambinilauf is a must-attend event for Eisenberg families — a fun run course specifically for the youngest athletes.
