Jazz, Beach and Summer – Open Air at Bostalsee in the St. Wendel district
Bostalsee in the St. Wendel district, covering 120 hectares, is the largest lake in Saarland and one of the region's most important recreational areas. In 2026, the fill in International Jazz Festival Saar – the major Saarbrücken jazz event – will expand its program with an open-air edition directly at the Gonnesweiler lido. This is the first edition at this unusual festival location.
Since its inception, the fill in Festival has established itself as one of the most important jazz events in southwestern Germany. The main festival takes place annually at the end of June at the E-Werk Saarbrücken, bringing international stars like Mario Biondi, Rebekka Bakken, and the Yellowjackets to Saarland. The Bostalsee edition complements the program with a summer format in a relaxed beach atmosphere.
The 2026 musical program features four bands from the regional and supra-regional jazz scene: the Jörg Seidel Trio with singer Sabine Kühlich (swinging tribute sound), Franz Becker & Friends (Blues), the Torino Reinhardt Ensemble with accordionist Marcel Loeffler (Jazz Manouche in the spirit of Django Reinhardt), and the Valeria Maurer Quartet (lyrical jazz with soul elements).
Bostalsee is part of the St. Wendel district and is located in the municipality of Nohfelden. The Gonnesweiler lido offers a fine sandy beach, which will be transformed into an open-air stage for the festival. Those who wish can combine attending the concert with a dip in the cool water, a stand-up paddle tour, or a bike ride around the lake. The nearby Center Parcs Park Bostalsee offers accommodation options.
Saarland has a strong jazz tradition – not least thanks to the Saarland broadcasting station (SR) and the Hochschule für Musik Saar with its renowned jazz program. The fill in Festival at Bostalsee adds a new, summery facet to this tradition, making Bostalsee a meeting point for jazz lovers in 2026.
