Three days of folk and tradition festival with a historic beer parade in Eibau (Kottmar municipality) — June 26 to 28, 2026
The Eibauer Bier- und Traditionszug — «Eibauer Bierzug» for short — has been held annually on the last Sunday of June since 1993. Eibau, now part of the Kottmar municipality in the Görlitz district (Saxony), has been a brewery location in Upper Lusatia for generations: the Münchshofer Brauerei and Brauerei Eibau define the town. The beer parade originated from this brewing tradition — as a festive event that showcases regional brewing and traditional culture. Today, the festival attracts visitors far beyond the municipal borders: tens of thousands of visitors come from the entire tri-border area of Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland.
The actual Bierzug starts on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 11 AM at the «Waldkretscham» in the neighboring district of Walddorf. The parade travels along the B96 for about 4 km to Eibau — a spectacular procession of over 100 horses, some ridden, some in two-, four-, and six-horse teams. The horses pull magnificent brewery wagons from historical collections and creatively decorated floats from participating clubs. The parade is accompanied by brass bands from the region; beer tastings are offered to spectators along the route — a tradition that makes the festival unique.
From Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28, 2026, a three-day folk and tradition festival takes place at the Volkshaus Eibau around the Sunday parade: a festival tent with live music (Schlager, folk music, party bands), club stands, amusement rides (Ferris wheel, carousel), showman stalls, regional gastronomy, and of course, Eibauer and Münchshofer beers. The festival grounds serve as the endpoint of the beer parade route and become the grand destination for the procession from Sunday afternoon.
The Kottmar municipality was formed in 2013 by the merger of the towns Eibau, Niedercunnersdorf, Obercunnersdorf, and Walddorf — at the foot of the Kottmar mountain (583 m) in Upper Lusatia. The region is characterized by its Umgebinde houses, brewing tradition, and a strong club culture. The Eibauer Bierzug, alongside the Cunnersdorfer Pferdesporttag, is the most important folk festival in the municipality and is considered one of the largest folk festivals in Upper Lusatia.
From Friday, June 26, 2026, to Sunday, June 28, 2026, the Eibauer Bierzug e.V. invites you to the 32nd edition of the Beer and Tradition Parade. The festival center is the Volkshaus Eibau in the Eibau district of the Kottmar municipality.
