Two-day town festival on the sports field in the southernmost town of Saxony
When the summer weather arrives in early June, the sports field in Seifhennersdorf opens its gates for two days for the traditional Bürgerfest (citizens' festival). It is not a major event with a high-gloss program — but a festival of clubs, families, and the community. That is exactly what makes the charm of the weekend: generations meet here, old school friends, newly arrived families, and guests from nearby Czechia for sausages, beer, lemonade, and many encounters under the open sky.
Saturday starts in the afternoon and picks up speed in the evening — typically with live music, a regional band, or a DJ, games for children, and a late wind-down by the campfire. Sunday is more family-oriented: morning pint, club presentations, a lunch with hearty home-style cooking, craft and game activities for children, plus coffee and cake in the afternoon. The exact program will be published in the town's official gazette and on the municipal website.
With around 3,700 inhabitants, Seifhennersdorf is one of the southernmost towns in Germany — right on the Czech border in the Görlitz district, at the foot of the Lusatian Mountains. The town is known for the legends surrounding the legendary captain of robbers Johann Karasek (his "Karaseks Revier" shapes tourism today) and for its vibrant club scene. The Bürgerfest, alongside the Carnival and the Christmas market, is the most important date in the town's annual calendar.
Admission is free. The clubs provide catering at fair prices — bratwurst, steak, fries, cake, drinks. Those who want to learn more about Seifhennersdorf can combine the festival with a walk through the historic Karaseks Revier or a hike on the Eisenberg.
The town of Seifhennersdorf and its clubs invite you to the annual Bürgerfest on the sports field. Saturday starts at 2 p.m. and goes into the evening — with club presentations, hands-on activities for children, music, and a hearty social program. Sunday opens at 11 a.m. with the morning pint, followed by lunch, coffee afternoon, and the festival concludes at 5 p.m.
The detailed program will be published shortly before the date in the official gazette of the town of Seifhennersdorf and on the municipal website under the "Events" tab. Those planning to stay for several hours should arrive early on Sunday for the lunch — it is usually snapped up quickly.
Detailed schedule (stage music, order of club contributions) will be published in the official gazette.
