About Schlossfest Hainewalde
Schlossfest Hainewalde — edition 2026
The 2026 edition is particularly elaborate as it is part of the community's 700th anniversary. Three festival days with clearly distinct themes — Friday romantic, Saturday medieval, Sunday Baroque — offer visitors an unusual historical journey.
The Hainewalde Castle Association and the municipality of Hainewalde have jointly developed the program. Minstrels, craftsmen, and performers from all over Upper Lusatia are participating in the staging. Hainewalde Castle, which is currently undergoing restoration, opens its doors for the festival.

700 Years Hainewalde
Hainewalde, a small village in Upper Lusatia in the Görlitz district, is celebrating its 700th anniversary in 2026. The festival year brings a variety of events throughout the year — the entire community, clubs, schools, and businesses are involved. The Schlossfest in June is the central highlight of this anniversary year, using the impressive Hainewalde Castle and its extensive park as a historical stage.
From the Middle Ages to the Baroque — Concept of the Three Festival Days
The festival's title says it all: 'From the Middle Ages to the Baroque'. Over three consecutive festival days, two eras of European cultural history are staged, framed by an opening night in a romantic style. This dramatic structure is unique in the Upper Lusatian festival calendar and makes the Hainewalde Schlossfest one of the most ambitious historical festivals in the region.
Craftsmen, Staged Combat, Music
Craftsmen from the late Middle Ages and the Baroque period present their work on the festival grounds: blacksmiths, carpenters and joiners, potters, spinners, and weavers. Several staged combat groups perform, and a dedicated stage features historical music — from minstrel songs to Baroque dances. Taverns and market stalls provide visitors with contemporary food and drinks.
Castle and Castle Park
Hainewalde Castle, a Baroque estate with a long noble history, is opened to visitors during the festival. The extensive castle park with old trees, paths, and small structures forms the natural backdrop — no other municipality in Saxony of this size can boast a comparable ensemble. The connection between the Baroque castle and the seemingly medieval village makes the festival authentic and atmospheric at the same time.
