34 Years of Ecumenism in Haan — Three Parishes, One Festival

The Ecumenical Parish Festival Haan is a rare example of lived ecumenism in West Germany — three faith communities from the Bergisches Land region of Haan have been jointly organizing a festival weekend for 34 years. The 34th edition will take place on June 13 and 14, 2026 — this time with expanded open-air concerts and an enhanced stage program.

Three Parishes — One Cooperation

Three Haan parishes are involved:

• Evangelical Parish Haan — Kaiserstraße 44, Saturday program
• Catholic Parish Haan — Königstraße 8, Sunday program
• Free Evangelical Community Haan — Co-organizer

This cross-denominational cooperation is programmatic — a sign that Christian faith does not draw dividing lines in Haan. The Parish Festival is considered an "Invitation to the Whole City" — meaning not just for believers, but for all residents of Haan.

2026 Program — Two Days of Joint Celebration

Saturday, June 13, 2026 — Evangelical Church, Kaiserstraße 44

• 1:00 PM: Opening service on the forecourt of the Evangelical Church
• Afternoon: Games, music, food and drinks
• SEGEN² — special blessing service (2026 motto)
• Evening: Open-air rock concert with Big Block Rock

Sunday, June 14, 2026 — Catholic Church, Königstraße 8

• Morning: Church services followed by an ecumenical blessing
• 12:30 PM: Stage program begins, activities, food and drinks, raffle
• Afternoon: Two live concerts — Insight and Mapiano
• Conclusion: Ecumenical blessing ceremony

Participants

Performances by local actors: Cheerleaders, kindergartens, and professional musicians. A true variety of stage acts with a connection to Haan's community life.

Social Commitment — Donation Proceeds

The proceeds from the festival benefit local social initiatives in Haan. Approximately €2,000 is distributed annually to projects in need of support — a small but continuous help for Haan's social and family work.

Haan — A Traditional Town in the Bergisches Land

Haan is a town in the Mettmann district, located between Düsseldorf, Solingen, and Wuppertal. With around 30,000 inhabitants, it has a manageable character — and it is precisely this that makes large ecumenical events like this possible. Three parishes that reach all citizens create a community festival with a real neighborhood function.

What Makes the Festival Special

Unlike purely parish festivals, the Haan festival has a genuine open-air concert feel — Big Block Rock on Saturday, Insight and Mapiano on Sunday. The concerts are not just a side attraction but the main event. This attracts young visitors who might otherwise attend summer festivals.
