Three-day village festival in Koppatz (Neuhausen/Spree)
Koppatz is a small district of the municipality of Neuhausen/Spree, located in the Spree-Neiße district between Cottbus and the Polish border. Lower Lusatia, with its Sorbian-Wendish cultural area, vast forests, and the Spree lowlands, shapes its own Brandenburg region – and small villages like Koppatz carry on this heritage, every year at the village festival.
The Koppatz Dorffest follows the classic format of Brandenburg village festivals, with a Friday evening kick-off, a full program on Saturday, and a family Sunday. Friday evening traditionally features a card game tournament that brings together the village's community life. Saturday is the main festival day with live music, stage program, and catering. Sunday is the family and winding-down day.
As in many Brandenburg villages, the village festival is the central public self-representation of the village community. Associations such as the volunteer fire department, the sports club, and the local history society organize the festival together with the village community and manage setup, catering, and the program through their own efforts. Free admission – the festival is financed by the sale of food and drinks as well as sponsorship from local businesses.
While Lower Lusatia is known regionally for its large folk festivals (e.g., in Cottbus, Forst, Spremberg) and open-air events (Lausitzring), it is precisely the small village festivals like Koppatz that truly shape the cultural face of the region. Those who want to experience Brandenburg beyond the postcard images will find a quiet, unvarnished, and all the more likeable version of the state here.
The Koppatz Dorffest 2026 runs from Friday, June 12, to Sunday, June 14, 2026, in the Lower Lusatian district of Koppatz, part of the municipality of Neuhausen/Spree. The organizers are the Koppatz village community and local associations. Friday evening traditionally opens with a card game tournament. Saturday brings the full stage program of live music, dance, and association contributions, complemented by a children's program. Sunday is the family and winding-down day with quieter program items. Free admission; food and drinks are paid for on-site. Campfires, sports competitions, and catering organized by the associations characterize the weekend.
