University Summer Festival on the Westend Campus
The Goethe University Summer Festival is more than just an internal university party. On the Westend Campus – one of the most beautiful university campuses in Europe, built around the former IG Farben building and equipped with the Casino, the lecture hall center, and the Adorno Pavilion – students, teachers, families, and interested Frankfurt residents have been gathering for years on the third Wednesday in June for an all-day celebration.
The 2026 music program runs on the main stage from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM and features six Frankfurt and supra-regional acts: Supermarket Underground (Alternative Rock with synth nuances, 2:30 PM), BABA SHRIMP GANG (German Indie Pop, 4:00 PM), Betti Kruse (New German Beat / Chanson-Schlager, 5:30 PM), SCHEIBA (Indie Rock with Disco Beats, 7:00 PM), PAULINKO (Neue Deutsche Welle with Pop-Punk elements, 8:30 PM), and Malaka Hostel (“Global Umpa” – Folklore meets modern beats, 10:00 PM).
Parallel to the concert program, numerous hands-on activities are offered across the campus: Campus tours focusing on architecture and university history, sports stations (Roundnet/Spikeball, Badminton with the Goethe Play Bike), workshops (e.g., handmade bead jewelry for 8 participants at €20 each), solar observation through special telescopes, a children's play area, information booths (traffic safety, mental health, insurance), and dance and orchestra performances. Twelve catering partners provide a wide range of food options, from traditional German cuisine to Italian gelato.
Free admission – the summer festival is one of the few major open-air university festivals in German-speaking countries that consistently sees itself as a public neighborhood festival. It is aimed not only at university members but at all Frankfurt residents.
