Street food market every second Wednesday from May to October on the market square
Anyone wanting to spend a Wednesday with culinary delights in Düren will find themselves drawn to the market square six times in 2026. The Schlemmermarkt is the monthly street food festival of the district town — always on the second Wednesday of the month from May to October, from 12 PM to 10 PM. A deliberate choice for the middle of the week, bringing together lunch breaks, after-work meetups, and relaxed open-air dinners.
The 2026 season spans six Wednesdays:
The program features everything the street food scene has to offer: meat, fish, vegetarian, and vegan options, specialties from various continents. Burgers alongside Bao Buns, Pulled Pork next to Falafel, Crêpes next to Churros. The exhibitor mix is intentionally varied — around a third of the food trucks change annually, so even regulars don't get bored.
The culinary program is accompanied by live music, dance performances, and stage shows on the market square. The combination of street food, music, and the historic city center backdrop makes the Schlemmermarkt a monthly must-attend event for the Düren / Eifel Foothills region.
The city of Düren is located in western North Rhine-Westphalia, about halfway between Cologne and Aachen, at the transition to the Eifel region. With around 92,000 inhabitants, it is the administrative seat of the Düren district — a region shaped for centuries by paper production, textile industry, and today increasingly by structural change after the phase-out of lignite mining. The Schlemmermarkt is part of a revitalization strategy for the city center, supported by the municipal economic development agency WIN.DN GmbH and CityMa e.V. Düren.
The organizers are WIN.DN GmbH (Düren Economic Development Agency) and CityMa e.V. Düren. The concept deliberately focuses on Wednesday evenings: while other street food festivals take place on weekends, the Schlemmermarkt relies on the mid-week effect — an after-work gathering with friends, colleagues, or family without weekend stress. A strategy that works in Düren and now attracts visitors from surrounding communities like Jülich, Eschweiler, and Stolberg.
The 2026 season runs over six Wednesdays from May to October. The market square transforms into a street food mile with food trucks from around the world — from burgers and BBQ to Asian specialties, vegan options, and sweet classics. Live music and stage performances accompany the culinary offerings. A deliberate focus on Wednesdays instead of weekends makes the Schlemmermarkt a mid-week meeting point for families, colleagues, and groups of friends.
Free admission. Prices according to the daily rates of the respective food trucks and exhibitors (typical street food prices between €7 and €15 per portion).
By train: Düren Hauptbahnhof on the RB and RE lines Aachen–Cologne, then a 5-minute walk to the market square. By car: A4 exit Düren, then follow signs for Zentrum. Parking garages in the city center (Theaterplatz, Stadtcenter).

For a more relaxed experience, come during the lunch service starting at 12 PM — it gets much busier in the evening after work (from 6 PM). The first two dates in May/June typically offer the best weather guarantee and the most exuberant atmosphere.
