Duisdorf — District in Bonn's Hardtberg Borough

Bonn, a city of around 333,000 inhabitants and former federal capital on the Rhine (a self-governing city in the Cologne administrative district), is divided into four boroughs. Duisdorf belongs to the western borough of Hardtberg and, as the central district of Hardtberg, has its own small-town character — its own shops, its own parish church, its own club life. The Duisdorf Christmas Market, organized by local associations (OfA — Ortsverband Duisdorf), is one of the many district festivals that shape Bonn's Advent season beyond the city center.

First Advent Weekend — Tradition

The 1st Advent weekend (November 27-29, 2026) marks the start of Bonn's Advent season. While the large Bonn Christmas market on Münsterplatz opens on the same weekend, many districts simultaneously begin their own smaller markets. Duisdorf is one of them — a format that brings the Advent spirit to the districts without the mass crowds of the city center.

Rochusstraße as the Venue

The market takes place on Rochusstraße / Am Schickshof in the heart of Duisdorf. The street will be closed for the three festival days and transformed into a market mile. Around 20-30 huts and stalls from local associations, businesses, and exhibitors will offer classic Christmas decorations, crafts, mulled wine, roasted almonds, bratwurst, and potato pancakes. The size is manageable, the atmosphere intimate.

Volunteer-Run

The Duisdorf Christmas Market is run by volunteers from local associations: the local heritage society, the OfA (Ortsverband Duisdorf), the parish, the marksmen's association, and other member organizations. The proceeds go to the associations' activities and social projects in the district. This volunteer-led organization distinguishes the market from commercial Christmas market events — the atmosphere is personal, and interaction is paramount.

Advent Program

On the three festival days, choirs from the local parish (St. Rochus / St. Pantaleon), brass choirs, and ensembles will perform. Special events on the 1st Sunday of Advent (November 29) — possibly an Advent service in St. Rochus followed by the market opening with Advent carols. Detailed program to be announced by OfA Duisdorf in autumn 2026.

Getting There

Duisdorf is easily accessible by Bonn's public transport: Tram line 18 (Duisdorf stop) connects the district with Bonn city center and Brühl. By car via the A555 (Bonn-Hardtberg exit). About a 10-15 minute drive from Bonn city center. Parking around the market street (limited, public transport recommended).
