Village Festival in Lower Lusatia
The Dorffest Waltersdorf is one of the traditional summer festivals of the municipality of Heideblick, which was formed from the merger of several villages south of Luckau in the Dahme-Spreewald district. Waltersdorf is one of the larger districts with its own village green, fire station, and playground. The latter serves as the central festival area for larger celebrations. In 2026, the village festival will take place on the weekend of May 30 and 31.
Program Character
Like many small village festivals in Brandenburg, the Waltersdorf festival relies on the voluntary work of the community and its associations. The program typically includes:
- Family program with children's games, face painting, and small competitions.
- Musical performances by regional groups or marching bands.
- Ceremony with the local mayor and associations.
- Sports competitions (football, tug-of-war).
- Evening dancing in the festival tent or under the open sky.
- Food and drinks such as grilled items, fries, and beer served from a festival wagon.
Waltersdorf Playground as a Meeting Point
The Waltersdorf playground is centrally located in the village and serves as a year-round meeting point for families. With a sandpit, climbing frames, and seating areas, it also provides an ideal space for stalls, a stage, and festival tables during celebrations. In May/June 2026, the two festival days will traditionally be organized here.
Heideblick – Municipality of 12 Districts
The municipality of Heideblick was formed in 2003 from the merger of 12 formerly independent villages. It is located between Luckau and Calau in Lower Lusatia – an agriculturally characterized landscape with fields, heath areas, and small mixed forests. Heideblick belongs to the Dahme-Spreewald district and is nestled between Luckau (to the west) and Cottbus (to the east).
Family Festival with Free Admission
The village festival is free to enter. Food and drinks will be served directly from the festival wagon and paid for on-site. The exact program will be published shortly before the event by the local council and the associations.
