Dorffest Struckum

Two Neighboring Communities, One Festival

Struckum and Breklum are neighboring communities in the south of the Nordfriesland district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located a few kilometers from Bredstedt on the transition from marsh to geest. Struckum has around 700 inhabitants, Breklum about 1,500. Since the first edition a year ago, both communities have been organizing a village festival together – alternating in one of the two districts. In 2026, Struckum will host the festival on the community square.

Summer, Music, and Dancing

The concept of the village festival is deliberately simple. It's not about big acts or spectacles, but about meeting: live music (often a local band or DJ), dancing under the open sky or in the festival tent, communal meals from the village kitchen, drinks. The clubs – sports club, women's circle, fire department – contribute stands, games, and activities. Families sit together for a long time, children play freely.

A Tradition is Being Strengthened

With the second edition, the village festival is developing into a regular tradition. Such festivals are important in the rural structure of North Frisia: they keep the social fabric of small communities alive, they attract people from surrounding towns, they give the clubs a reason for joint work. In the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Nordfriesland district, events like the Dorffest Struckum are exemplary for rural festival culture.

Marsh and Geest Landscape as a Backdrop

Anyone visiting the festival who has some time should also see the surroundings: the Bredstedt geest with its hedges and hills, the open marsh towards Husum, the nearby North Sea coast. Struckum is located in the middle of this North Frisian transition area – and the village festival is a good opportunity to get to know it through the character of its inhabitants.
