Kites over Lemwerder — Sky Full of Colors on the Weser Riverbank
Kites over Lemwerder is one of the largest and most atmospheric kite festivals in northwestern Germany. The venue is the Ritzenbütteler Sand in Lemwerder — a vast meadow area on the Weser riverbank in the municipality of Lemwerder, Wesermarsch district. In 2026, the festival runs from August 28 to 30, turning the 16-hectare site into the region's most colorful open-air experience.
70+ Teams and 250+ Kites
Over the festival weekend, more than 70 kite teams from Germany and all over Europe gather. With over 250 kites of all sizes and shapes, they fill the sky above Ritzenbütteler Sand: from small single-line kites to multi-story ground kites with a ten-meter wingspan, from acrobatic stunt kite performances to kite traction demonstrations. A 6-hectare kite flying field provides pilots with ample space for safe flying.
BEGU Stage with Live Music
Organizer BEGU Lemwerder operates the main stage with live music throughout the festival weekend. Cover bands, rock bands, acoustic acts, and DJ sets provide the musical backdrop. The stage programs adapt to the time of day — from family-friendly afternoon programs to festive evening events.
Circus Area and 20 Children's Attractions
Families will find acrobatics shows and interactive stations in the Circus Area. 20 children's attractions — from carousels, trampolines, and bouncy castles to creative workshops — make the festival a must-attend event for families from the entire region between Bremen, Bremerhaven, Oldenburg, and Wesermarsch.
Three Days of Program into the Night
The festival runs Friday 4 PM-12 AM, Saturday 12 PM-12 AM, Sunday 10 AM-6 PM. The extension into the night on Friday and Saturday allows for night kite flying with illuminated kites — a magical sight over the Weser riverbank.
Free Admission
Admission is free. Food, drinks, and individual special offers are paid for on-site. With this free policy, BEGU Lemwerder makes the festival an accessible outing for every family.
