Summery village festival of the FFW Leeder in the historic Hofgarten on the Lech
For many years, the Dorffest Leeder has been the convivial highlight of the summer in the Upper Bavarian market town of Leeder, a district of the municipality of Fuchstal. The festival is jointly organized by the three major village clubs: the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Markt Leeder (Volunteer Fire Department), the brass band, and the marksmen. This constellation is typical of Bavarian village club culture and ensures that the festival is broadly anchored and the entire village community celebrates together.
The village festival takes place in the Hofgarten Leeder – a green courtyard surrounded by old trees in the town center. The name »Hofgarten« refers to its historical function: it was once the garden of a noble farmstead. Festival tables and benches are set up among the trees, the first guests arrive in the late afternoon, and as the sun sets, the Hofgarten fills with a cheerful atmosphere.
The Leeder fire department is responsible for catering: Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Bratwürste (sausages), fries, salads, and cakes are on the menu – along with draft beer, soft drinks, and Hugo cocktails. The Blaskapelle Leeder plays traditional Bavarian pieces, and later in the evening, a dance band takes over. The Schützen (marksmen) are also represented with a booth and activities.
Fuchstal is a municipality with just over 4,200 inhabitants in the district of Landsberg am Lech in Upper Bavaria (state of Bavaria). The municipality is located in the Lech valley between Landsberg am Lech and Schongau, nestled in a gently rolling pre-Alpine landscape with views of the first peaks of the Bavarian Alps. Leeder itself was a market town for centuries and has retained this character with well-preserved burgher houses and the parish church of St. Peter and Paul. The historical market significance also explains the exceptionally large Hofgarten in the town center.
The Dorffest Leeder is a classic Upper Bavarian club festival – without commercial providers, without admission fees, and without major staging. What counts is the village community that meets on a summer evening in the Hofgarten to eat, drink, chat, and dance together. Many guests from the surrounding Lech valley communities also come to Leeder for the Dorffest every year.
On Saturday, June 20, from 5:00 PM, the village festival opens in the Hofgarten. Festival tables and benches under old trees, hearty festival food from the fire department's kitchen, the Blaskapelle Leeder with traditional Bavarian sounds, and later in the evening, dance music. The marksmen will also have a booth on site. With good weather, the celebration will be outdoors; in case of rain, it will be under the covered areas of the Hofgarten.
Free admission. Catering at usual club prices (Mass of beer approx. €4–5, Schweinshaxe approx. €12–15). Payment in cash at the club booths.
