Spreewald tradition with a barge parade on the canals
If Brandenburg has a landmark village, it's Schlepzig. The small village in the heart of the Lower Spreewald, in the Dahme-Spreewald district, seems straight out of a picture book: typical Spreewald houses along the main street, five Spreewald canals meander through the village, wooden barges are moored at every jetty, and the Spreewaldresort Seinerzeit has been setting new standards for wellness tourism in the region for over ten years. The annual Dorf- und Hafenfest turns this idyll into a lively Volksfest (folk festival) once a year.
The absolute highlight is the Kahnkorso on Sunday afternoon. Starting at 2 PM, dozens of decorated Spreewald barges will move along the canals — clubs, companies, tourism operators, music groups — all have decorated their barges with flowers, themes, and show elements. The barges are traditionally poled by Spreewald boatmen in Sorbian traditional costume, sometimes the passengers sing, and greetings are always exchanged. The parade moves along the Großer Hafen Schlepzig and is ideally observed from bridges and the banks.
At the festival grounds, you'll find all the Spreewald classics: Spreewald gherkins in a thousand variations, smoked fish directly from Schlepzig fishermen, linseed oil, Sorbian specialties, and of course, Spreewald honey. Local breweries and liqueur manufacturers will be serving their products. The mix of folk festival, a showcase of the Lower Spreewald, and a family gathering attracts thousands of guests annually from Berlin, the surrounding Berlin area, and Lusatia.
Schlepzig is a travel highlight even outside of the festival: barge trips, guided tours on the water, and hikes along the canals. Those who extend their stay for a weekend can stay at the Spreewaldresort Seinerzeit or choose one of the typical guesthouses. From the festival grounds, the famous barges depart for tours into the Lower Spreewald — a combination that is hard to beat.
The 2026 Harbor Festival in Schlepzig will be held on August 1st and 2nd, 2026, at the Großer Hafen. Co-organizer, alongside the harbor, is the Spreewaldresort Seinerzeit. The festival is one of the liveliest Spreewald events of the summer.
The focus is on the Kahnkorso on Sunday — the traditional parade of decorated Spreewald barges through the Schlepzig canal network. Clubs, companies, and tourism operators from the region participate with thematically designed barges, poled by boatmen in traditional Sorbian costume.
Current details and registration for participating barges are available on the harbor website.

Free admission. Pay individually for food and drinks. Barge trips parallel to the parade can be booked (advance booking recommended).
Best spots for the Kahnkorso: Bridges at the Großer Hafen and the banks of the main canals. Arrive early — Schlepzig is small and the festival is very popular.
