Artisan Christmas Market at the historic FloraFarm Ginseng in the Bockhorn district of Walsrode
The FloraFarm Ginseng in Bockhorn, a rural district of the town of Walsrode, is Germany's oldest ginseng farm and has been cultivating and processing the medicinal plant under the Lüneburger Heide sun for decades. Once a year, the Brüne family opens its historic farm complex for the Bockhorner Weihnachtsmarkt – a curated market that deliberately focuses on quality over size.
The motto “Ginseng, Art & Curiosities” aptly describes the concept. In addition to products related to ginseng – from teas and tinctures to cosmetic care – visitors will find selected arts and crafts: ceramics, jewelry, felt work, turned wooden objects, Christmas decorations, and paintings by regional artists. The offering is complemented by culinary specialties, mulled wine, honey, spirits, and winter snacks.
The stables, barns, and farm buildings of the FloraFarm form a closed inner courtyard, which is decorated with fairy lights, fire pits, and fir branches during Advent. Live music with a Christmas program provides the acoustic accompaniment. Those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of large city markets will find a rural, almost familiar Advent atmosphere here.
Bockhorn is located about five kilometers southwest of Walsrode's town center in a heath and forest landscape. The market attracts an overregional audience from the Heidekreis district, the Hanover region, and Lower Saxony's north, and is often a destination for excursions combined with a walk in the heath.
The second weekend in December is the traditional date for the Bockhorner Weihnachtsmarkt. It is open on Saturday from 12 PM to 7 PM and on Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM. Admission for adults is 5 Euros; children and teenagers up to 16 years are admitted free.
Around forty curated exhibitors are expected with arts and crafts, jewelry, ceramics, textile work, and Christmas decorations. The offerings are complemented by products from FloraFarm itself – ginseng tea, tinctures, cosmetic care – as well as regional specialties such as honey, spirits, and winter snacks.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late autumn. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
December 12th and 13th, 2026 (Saturday and Sunday).
Saturday from 12 PM to 7 PM, Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM.
FloraFarm Ginseng, Bockhorn district, 29664 Walsrode.
Adults 5 Euros. Children and teenagers up to 16 years have free admission.
By car via the A7, exit Walsrode-West, then follow signs towards Bockhorn. Parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the FloraFarm. By train to Walsrode, then take a taxi or bus.
Due to the rural location and intimate atmosphere, a visit is particularly worthwhile in the evening hours when the farm is fully illuminated with fairy lights.
