Tradition, Crafts, and Traditional Attire in Kolbermoor

The Dirndl- und Trachtenmarkt Kolbermoor is a market for Upper Bavarian traditions, crafts, and attire held every two years. The venue is the Pauline-Thoma-Schule in Kolbermoor, a town in the district of Rosenheim in Upper Bavaria, located south of Rosenheim on the banks of the Mangfall. Since 2010, the market has been organized by the traditional costume association GTEV »D'Mangfalltaler« Kolbermoor.

Marketplace for Traditional Attire and Crafts

On the two market days, exhibitors from the entire Mangfalltal region present their work: Dirndl makers, Lederhosen tailors, traditional embroiderers, hat makers, blacksmiths, woodturners, beekeepers, spinning and weaving crafts, and many other traditional trades. Special focus is placed on Dirndl fabrics, traditional jewelry, and handmade aprons.

Living Traditions

The market sees itself as a vibrant celebration of tradition: demonstrations of traditional attire, dance performances by the D'Mangfalltaler, and musical contributions by Upper Bavarian folk musicians liven up the school grounds. Mangfalltal specialties, coffee, and cake provide culinary delights for market visitors.

Preservation of Traditional Crafts

With the Dirndl- und Trachtenmarkt, the traditional costume association makes a statement for the preservation of traditional crafts, some of which are now threatened with extinction in the region. Exhibitors provide information about their techniques, and many demonstrate their craft live.

Popular Event in the Rosenheim Region

The market attracts visitors from the entire district of Rosenheim, from Munich, Bad Aibling, and Bayerischzell. With the growing popularity of traditional attire and regional identity, it is a fixed date in the Upper Bavarian traditional costume calendar.
