Germany's oldest and largest artist-organized sales exhibition — 180 artists at Kunstpalast and NRW-Forum
DIE GROSSE has been organized since 1902 by the Verein zur Veranstaltung von Kunstausstellungen e.V. (Association for the Organization of Art Exhibitions) — by artists, for artists. This makes it the oldest and largest sales exhibition of its kind in Germany. The curatorial responsibility lies with an annually changing expert jury, which selects around 180 positions from submitted applications. This self-administration ensures artistic independence and a broad aesthetic spectrum of the NRW art scene.
The exhibition takes place in two venues in Düsseldorf's Ehrenhof district: the traditional Kunstpalast and the adjacent NRW-Forum. Four large halls and outdoor areas provide space for painting, photography, graphics, sculpture, installation, and video works. Unlike gallery exhibitions, all displayed works are for sale — DIE GROSSE has always been a sales exhibition with a mediating function between artists and collectors.
Admission is €16 (regular), €12 (concessions), and free for children and young people up to 18 years of age. Members of the Friends' Circle also have free admission. The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with extended hours until 9:00 PM on Thursdays — closed on Mondays.
The independent city of Düsseldorf is the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and one of Germany's most important art metropolises. The Düsseldorf Art Academy, K21, Kunstsammlung NRW, Tanzhaus NRW, and numerous galleries around Königsallee form a dense cultural network, in which DIE GROSSE Kunstausstellung NRW is an important summer highlight each year. Düsseldorf's Ehrenhof, with Kunstpalast and NRW-Forum, is located directly on the Rhine, within walking distance of the old town and easily accessible by public transport.
The exhibition presents works in painting, photography, graphics, sculpture, installation, and video across four halls and outdoor areas. All works are for sale. Admission: €16 regular, €12 concessions, free for under 18s.
