Four days of Rhineland-Palatinate wine directly on the Rhine promenade
Burgplatz in Düsseldorf's Old Town is one of the city's most defining addresses — directly on the Rhine promenade, in front of the Schlossturm (the last remnant of the Düsseldorf Castle, which burned down in the 19th century), under the shade of the courthouse awnings, and within sight of the well-known Düsseldorf Old Town pubs. Standing on Burgplatz, you can see the Rhine, the promenade, and the Oberkassel bank on the opposite side. There's hardly a better backdrop for a wine festival.
WEINsommer Düsseldorf is a four-day open-air wine event taking place from July 30 to August 2, 2026, at Burgplatz. Wines, primarily from Rhineland-Palatinate — by far the most important German wine-growing region — will be presented. Several winemakers personally manage their stands and serve directly from the producer. The atmosphere is explicitly relaxed: long tables, standing tables, small parasols, live music in the background, no concert-like character.
Rhineland-Palatinate is the German wine country: 70% of German wine-growing areas are located here. The participating winemakers come from the growing regions: Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Mosel, Nahe, and Ahr. Styles: dry Riesling, Spätlese, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), and Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Rosé, sparkling wines, and Sekt. Those with little experience with German wines can learn about perhaps the best selection in a concentrated format at Burgplatz.
Accompanying the wines, classic accompaniments are offered — Flammkuchen, cheese platters, sausage and bread baskets, light summer dishes. Unlike large city summer festivals, the focus here is not on the food — the wine defines the profile, the food is an accompaniment. Beer and non-alcoholic drinks are also served.
The organizer is das Team Agentur für Marketing GmbH, an agency based in the Pfalz region, which also operates the WEINsommer format in other major German cities — e.g., in Cologne. The Düsseldorf edition has been a regular fixture in the summer calendar for years. Note: Table reservations are not possible — if you want a seat, come early or inquire on-site. The event is partially photographed and filmed — images may be used in publications and online.
