Ten days of funfair at the Tonhallenufer with a Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and a grand firework display over the Rhine
Anyone who experiences the Düsseldorf spring from the Tonhallenufer knows: in April, one of Germany's most beautiful city funfairs runs here for ten days. The Düsseldorf Spring Fair transforms the Rhine promenade between the Tonhalle and the Old Town into a colourful festival mile with a direct view of the Rhine and the Old Town skyline. In 2026, the fair runs from April 17th to 26th.
The fair offers over 50 attractions, from the classic swing boat to modern high-thrill rides. The centerpiece is the Ferris wheel 'Ostseestern 2', offering a panoramic view of the Rhine and Düsseldorf's city center. Alongside it, the roller coaster 'Karibik-Coaster' with its Caribbean theme delights, complemented by bumper cars, children's carousels, wave flyers, and smaller game stalls.
The highlight is the grand firework display on Friday, April 24th, 2026, at 10:00 PM over the Rhine. Düsseldorf residents and day-trippers will flock to the Rhine promenade to witness the spectacle with reflections on the river. Recommended viewing points: the Tonhallenufer itself, the Rhine promenade between Burgplatz and Rheinkniebrücke, and the opposite Oberkassel Rhine promenade.
The fair is open daily, with varying opening hours:
Admission is free. Rides are paid for individually, typical prices per ride €3–€6. Family day tickets and multi-pass offers are sometimes sold on-site.
The fair is centrally located on the Tonhallenufer, one of Düsseldorf's most beautiful Rhine sections. Take the subway lines U70 or U74–79 to Tonhalle/Ehrenhof, then a 3-minute walk. If you're driving, park at the Rheinterrasse car park or the underground garages around the Old Town. Note: on weekend evenings, the city center gets crowded – take public transport.
What makes the Düsseldorf Spring Fair special is its location. Instead of being on the outskirts like many funfairs, it takes place right in the heart of Düsseldorf. Against the backdrop of the Old Town with its thousand pubs, the Rhine Tower in sight, and the Tonhalle as a historic concert hall right next door, it offers an ambiance that is unique in Germany. Combine the fair with a visit to the Old Town or a stroll along the Rhine – a perfect spring day.
The fair appeals to all age groups. Families visit mainly in the afternoon (3 PM–6 PM) and enjoy the children's carousels and sweet stalls. Teenagers and young adults flock to the high-thrill rides and beer stands in the evenings. Tourists visiting Düsseldorf from abroad bring an international flair to this festive spring event.
