Island culture festival between dyke, shipyard, and orchards
Finkenwerder lies southwest of Hamburg's city center, beyond the Elbe yet within the city limits. Shaped by fishing, shipbuilding (today Airbus), and fruit farming in the neighboring Alte Land region, the district has a very distinct identity. Deichpartie turns this identity into a festival: "Finkenwerder spruces itself up and invites you to look behind the dykes."
Over the weekend, around 40 to 60 locations open up: artists' studios of Finkenwerder residents, old workshops, captain's houses, gardens by the dyke, shipyard halls, public spaces. Visitors can simply walk in, talk to artists and craftspeople, and learn about their works and stories. In parallel, small live concerts take place at several stations — jazz, shanty, classical, occasionally pop.
The festival emphasizes the island's historical layers: shipbuilding (Sietas shipyard, Airbus), fishing (Finkenwerder Scholle), fruit farming (connection to Alte Land), and maritime life. Some locations are directly in the shadow of shipyard halls, others in old orchards. Those unfamiliar with Finkenwerder as a district get a quick, dense introduction over the weekend.
Finkenwerder administratively belongs to Hamburg-Mitte. The island is best reached by HADAG ferry from the Landungsbrücken pier (line 62) or by bicycle via the Köhlbrandbrücke bridge and the Old Elbe Tunnel. The organizers are the Kulturkreis Finkenwerder, supported by the City of Hamburg, Hamburger Sparkasse, and local business associations.
Over two days, Finkenwerder opens its doors. Around 40 to 60 locations are spread across the entire district — from the dyke at Köhlfleet, through the historic captain's houses on Finkenwerder Norderdeich, down to the orchards towards Cranz. An approximate route with a map will be available on deichpartie.de before the festival.
The program will be published in the summer of 2026 by Kulturkreis Finkenwerder. Based on experience, it includes guided tours of studios, concerts at various locations, culinary offerings from regional providers (Finkenwerder Scholle, apple products from Alte Land), and small workshops for children.
Studio tours directly with the artists, concerts in surprising locations, and the ferry journey as part of the experience.
Free admission. Donations for Kulturkreis Finkenwerder are welcome. Food and drinks are paid for on-site.
