Three Days of Kirbe on the Filderhöhe

The Degerlocher Kirbe is one of the traditional Kirchweih festivals in southern Stuttgart. From Saturday, October 24th, to Monday, October 26th, 2026, the volunteer fire department Degerloch-Hoffeld takes over the festival grounds on Große Falterstraße between Epple- and Karl-Pfaff-Straße, transforming it into an amusement park with rides, a market, and catering in the fire station.

Amusement Park with Tradition

The festival grounds open on Saturday and Monday from 2 PM to 10 PM, and on Sunday from 11 AM to 10 PM. The grounds feature a variety of rides (carousels, bumper cars, Ferris wheel, children's rides), amusement stalls (shooting gallery, lottery, candy stalls), and a market selling clothing, household goods, and toys. The mix of amusement park and market is typical for the Kirbe tradition in Southern Germany — unlike purely amusement-focused festivals, the Kirbe has a distinct market character.

The Fire Department as Caterer

The festival is catered by the volunteer fire department Degerloch-Hoffeld directly at the fire station on Leinfeldener Straße 65 — just a short walk from the festival grounds. Expect Swabian specialties, beer, wine, coffee, and cake. The proceeds support the fire department's work. This close connection between the fire department and festival catering is a Swabian tradition that is particularly well-maintained in Degerloch.

Degerloch — Stuttgart District on the Filderhöhe

Degerloch is one of Stuttgart's 23 districts, located 200 meters above the Stuttgart valley basin on the Filderhöhe. The district has around 17,000 inhabitants and is connected to the valley basin via the rack railway ("Zacke") and the U-Bahn lines U 5, U 6, U 7, U 8, U 12, and U 15. Degerloch is primarily known for the TV tower — the world's first, opened in 1956 — and for its unique character, blending village tradition with urban lifestyle. The Kirbe is one of the district's most important social events and a meeting point for Degerloch's community organizations.

Märkte Stuttgart as Organizer

The commercial aspects of the Kirbe — stallholder allocation, traffic management, permits — are handled by Märkte Stuttgart GmbH, a subsidiary of the City of Stuttgart that also organizes the Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest, the Cannstatter Volksfest, and the Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt. The fire department acts as the caterer and co-organizer — a setup that has been successful for decades.
