14 Locations, 30 Artists
The Degerloch Art Walk is an open studio format: Artists from Degerloch and the adjacent districts of Stuttgart open their studios, galleries, and sometimes temporary pop-up spaces for two days. You walk on foot, at your own pace and in your own order, through the district, visiting location after location. 14 locations, around 30 artists — this makes the Art Walk a concentrated overview of the Degerloch art scene.
Variety of Techniques
What the artists showcase covers a broad spectrum: Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media), screen printing, drawing, graphics, photography, sculpture (stone, wood, metal, bronze), plastic arts, ceramics, installation, jewelry art, and object art. There are no curatorial guidelines — each artist presents what they are currently working on. This makes the walk so authentic: You experience workshops in action, can talk to the artists, and often buy directly.
Self-Guided Tour
The Art Walk is explicitly self-guided — no guided tour, no fixed order. A printed map (available at the locations or online in advance) shows the 14 locations; you choose your route. Some visitors systematically go through all 14, others focus on specific genres. The atmosphere is relaxed — you come and go, chat with the artists, have a coffee in a studio, and move on.
Degerloch — on the Fildern above Stuttgart
Degerloch is located on the Filder plateau, 200 m above the Stuttgart valley basin, with a view of the city. The district has an independent identity — upscale-bourgeois, with villas, old trees, an active art scene, and committed local culture. Since 2023, the Degerloch Art Initiative has been organizing the Art Walk as an annual event, establishing it as an important date in the Stuttgart art calendar — a counterpart to the more official Art Summer or the summer theaters in the city center.
