Dampfnudel – Palatinate Pastry

The Dampfnudel is a traditional Palatinate pastry: a yeast dough that is steamed in a pan with salt water and fat, so that it gets a crispy crust on the bottom and remains airy on top. Depending on the region and tradition, the Dampfnudel is served either savory with goulash, potato soup, or fried bacon, or sweet with wine sauce, vanilla sauce, plum jam, or preserved fruits. The Palatinate and the Baden-Southwest German variations each have their own accents.

Dampfnudelfest of TSV Freckenfeld

TSV 1908 Freckenfeld uses the summer festival to celebrate the Dampfnudel as a Palatinate specialty. Club members prepare the Dampfnudeln in large pans on-site, and the gastronomic concept is focused on the specialty, supplemented by classic Palatinate side dishes and drinks. The festival is a day-trip destination for all who love Palatinate pastry traditions.

Four Classic Variations

Four classic variations are served: Dampfnudel with goulash (savory, hearty), Dampfnudel with potato soup (Palatinate classic), Dampfnudel with wine sauce (sweet, prepared with Palatinate wine), and Dampfnudel with vanilla sauce (sweet, classic). This range appeals to lovers of both savory and sweet versions.

Freckenfeld and TSV

Freckenfeld is a small municipality in Southern Palatinate with around 1300 inhabitants in the Kandel administrative district, not far from the Alsatian border. TSV 1908 Freckenfeld is the central sports club of the town and makes an important contribution to the social life of the community with the Dampfnudelfest.
