The largest city festival in Saarland – 50th edition with seven stages
The Saarbrücken Old Town Festival is the largest city festival in Saarland and is in a celebratory mood in 2026: its 50th edition. For three days, the historic old town around St. Johanner Markt, Schlossplatz, and Saarwiese, beneath the State Theatre, transforms into a continuous festival mile. The festival attracts over 250,000 visitors each year – Saarbrücken feels like it has about a million more inhabitants than usual during the festival.
Seven stages are spread across the old town: Rock, Pop, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Schlager, Dance Music, regional acts, and national headliners – the organizers consciously focus on diversity. The programming has been ambitious for years: regional bands from Saarland share the stages with established German acts and occasional international artists.
A special feature is the close cooperation with Lebenshilfe Saarbrücken. They run the Inclusion Disco on Friday evening, and throughout the weekend, there are dance and movement formats that explicitly appeal to people with and without disabilities together. In 2026, on Sunday, the "Dance Explosion – Summer Selection" will take place with partner dancing, a Latino DJ set, and an open dance floor, intended by the organizers as a "symbol of peace and non-violent coexistence.”
Over 100 stalls provide visitors with food from all over the world: Schwenker and Lyoner from the Saarschwenkermeister, French crêpes and galettes from nearby Lorraine, Italian pizza, Asian wok dishes, Vietnamese summer rolls, German classics, and regional brewery products. The mix of city festival and street food makes the Old Town Festival a culinary experience even between concerts.
Saarbrücken, the state capital of Saarland and the center of the Saarbrücken regional association, embraces the Old Town Festival. Shops change their opening hours, cafés set up outdoor seating, and the State Theatre opens up Saarwiese as a festival area. If you want to experience Saarland in its holiday mode – the Old Town Festival is the time to do it.
Organized by the state capital Saarbrücken. The anniversary program includes (inter)national top acts, regional artists, and a diverse supporting program. Lebenshilfe Saarbrücken is once again a partner and hosts the Inclusion Disco on Friday evening.
The exact stage lineup will be announced in early summer 2026 on saarbruecken.de. Artist applications for Open Stage via [email protected], dance groups via dance-explosion.de.
Completely free admission. Food, drinks, and individual rides are paid for directly on-site.

Admission is completely free for all three days. Food, drinks, and rides are paid for on-site.
If you want to see the main stage: secure your spot from 6 PM. Families will find a quieter program during the day at Schlossplatz and in the side streets. Book hotel accommodation well in advance – Saarbrücken is fully booked during the festival.
