Three theatre guest performances in front of the romantic castle ruins
When summer arrives in the Fläming region, the Dahmer Theatersommer begins. The venue is the Schlossruine Dahme/Mark — the romantic ruin of a baroque castle that fell into disrepair after 1945 and today exudes a special atmosphere. Against this backdrop, with old masonry in the background and the clear Brandenburg sky above, three different theatre ensembles from the region perform — new plays every year, always in the open air.
Instead of a concentrated festival weekend, the Dahmer Theatersommer stretches its performance period over three months: from June to September. This creates a rhythmic summer performance schedule that invites audiences from the entire region to visit the castle ruins multiple times. The organiser is the town of Dahme/Mark, which has maintained this tradition for years.
The former Dahme Castle was built in the 17th century as a residence for the Wettin margraves. After 1945, the castle fell into disrepair and was partially demolished — what remains today is an impressive ruin with baroque masonry remnants and a spacious courtyard. The acoustics of the walls, the natural lighting of the evening sun, and the authenticity of the decay make the castle ruins one of the most beautiful open-air stages in Brandenburg.
Dahme/Mark is the administrative seat of the Dahme/Mark office in the Teltow-Fläming district. The town lies on the Dahme river, which takes its course here and later flows through Berlin into the Spree. The Hoher Fläming region is a nature park with rolling hills, castle ruins, and extensive forests — a perfect weekend destination for theatre fans from Berlin and Potsdam.
The Dahmer Theatersommer 2026 unfolds over three months: June, July, and September. Each of the three guest performance evenings is independent — you can choose individual dates or attend all three, depending on your interest.
The castle ruins serve as the central venue, lending a different atmosphere to each play: in June, the young, bright summer light; in July, the midsummer evening; in September, the early dusk with spotlights and torchlight. The performing theatres choose their plays accordingly.
