Four days of Pride in the state capital – demonstration, street festival, and commemoration between the Old Town and the Rhine promenade
The CSD Düsseldorf – officially 'Düsseldorf Pride' – like all Christopher Street Days, commemorates the uprising in Christopher Street, New York, in 1969. Over approximately 25 years, the political demonstration of the late 1990s has evolved into a four-day city festival that attracts hundreds of thousands between Johannes-Rau-Platz, the Old Town, and the Rhine embankment. The organizer is CSD Düsseldorf e.V., which explicitly locates its roots in the political movement and points to the tradition of solidarity with queer communities worldwide.
From June 4th to 7th, 2026, the CSD will occupy several locations simultaneously. The street festival on Johannes-Rau-Platz and in the Old Town will run for three days with a main stage, an information mile from queer clubs and associations, gastronomic offerings, and live entertainment. On Friday, June 5th, at 6 PM, an ecumenical service will be held in the Josephskapelle – a deliberately inclusive act of remembrance for the victims of anti-queer violence. The highlight is the demonstration on Saturday, June 6th, 2026: Assembly from 11:30 AM, start at 1:30 PM. The route in 2026 is 'more extensive than in previous years' – a statement after several years of growing participant numbers. The registration deadline for participating groups was May 29th, 2026.
CSD Düsseldorf takes a clear political and solidarity-based stance. The 2026 motto, analogous to previous years, emphasizes the diversity of the community and opposes the political shift to the right: 'We are loud and colorful – and brown is not a color of the rainbow!'. Düsseldorf maintains Pride city partnerships with Frankfurt, Chemnitz, Haifa, Moscow, Palermo, Warsaw, Lyon, and other cities – a network that enables visibility, especially in times of increasing repression in Eastern Europe.
The CSD is embedded within the Pride Weeks 2026 from May 14th to June 29th, organized by the LSBTIQ+ Forum Düsseldorf and the portal duesseldorf-queer.de. Over several weeks, there will be readings, film series, workshops, awareness training, parties, and discussion evenings. The main venues: Old Town, City Center, selected bars, and cultural centers. Düsseldorf is thus considered the third important Pride center in North Rhine-Westphalia and Western Germany, after Cologne and Berlin.
Düsseldorf, the capital of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is not only the city of banks, fashion, and the Art Collection NRW – but also an important stage for queer visibility. The CSD utilizes the spatially compact Old Town between Burgplatz, Marktplatz, and the Rhine promenade to create a particularly dense festival atmosphere. Visitors to the CSD experience a city that completely dresses in rainbow colors for this weekend.
The registration deadline for participating groups and vehicles was May 29th, 2026 (Contact: [email protected]). The route in 2026 is, according to the association, 'more extensive than in previous years'. In parallel, the LSBTIQ+ Forum Düsseldorf is organizing the Pride Weeks with readings, films, workshops, and parties at various locations in the state capital.
