About Corso Leopold

Twice a year, Corso Leopold transforms Leopoldstraße between Siegestor and Münchner Freiheit into Munich's largest open-air cultural festival. On both festival weekends, the central Schwabing boulevard is closed to traffic and fills with dozens of stages, hundreds of artists, countless exhibitors, and thousands of visitors. Art, music, politics, sustainability, and culinary arts merge into an urban festival for all generations – with completely free admission. Two editions will take place in 2026: June 20/21 and September 12/13.

Schwabing becomes a stage

Corso Leopold is Munich's largest open-air cultural festival and one of Bavaria's most distinctive urban cultural events. On two weekends a year – in June and September – Leopoldstraße between Siegestor and Münchner Freiheit is closed to car traffic and transformed into a kilometer-long festival boulevard.

Hundreds of artists, dozens of stages

On around ten stages, over 200 artists perform from a wide variety of genres – from indie and singer-songwriter to world music and jazz, classical music, spoken word, and performance. In addition, there are over 90 exhibitors: NGOs, social institutions, cultural initiatives, food trucks, book publishers, craftspeople, and designers. Political engagement, ecological themes, and neighborhood culture are just as central as purely artistic performance.

Free and for all generations

Despite the huge program, admission to Corso Leopold is completely free. The organizer is Corso Leopold e.V. in cooperation with the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and the District Committee 12 (Schwabing-Freimann). The concept deliberately targets all generations: children's programs, youth culture, family activities, and adult programs are located right next to each other.

Schwabing myth and urban meeting place

Schwabing is Munich's traditional artists' quarter with a long history as a bohemian and student district. Corso Leopold builds on this tradition but takes it further: as an accessible, democratic festival in public space. In September 2025, the edition attracted around 120,000 visitors over two days. The motto “Everything begins. Now.” stands for the festival's open, future-oriented attitude.

Corso Leopold — edition 2026

The summer edition of Corso Leopold in 2026 runs on June 20 and 21: On around ten stages between Siegestor and Münchner Freiheit, over 200 artists perform, and more than 90 exhibitors line Leopoldstraße. Free admission. A second edition follows on September 12/13, 2026.

The June 2026 edition marks the summer kickoff of Corso Leopold. With the longest daylight hours of the year, the festival runs on Saturday from 4 PM to midnight (music until 11 PM) and on Sunday from 11 AM to 9 PM (music until 8 PM).

The event concept focuses on a mix of stage culture, political initiatives, and urban life: indie, jazz, singer-songwriter, classical music, world music, performance, spoken word, dance – plus stands from NGOs, social organizations, educational institutions, cultural initiatives, and food trucks.

The organizer is Corso Leopold e.V. in collaboration with the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and the District Committee 12 Schwabing-Freimann. The complete stage and exhibitor program will be published a few weeks before the festival on corso-leopold.de.
