Traditional cycling race on Easter Monday with around 250 participants on a 1.2 km circuit
The Grand Easter Prize of the Spa and Red Wine Town Ahrweiler is one of the most traditional cycling races in the Rhineland-Palatinate cycling calendar. On Easter Monday, Schützenstraße in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler transforms into a 1.2-kilometer circuit, used for several race heats in various categories. The race is organized by RSV Sturmvogel 1890 e.V., which has shaped cycling life in Ahrweiler for over 130 years.
Around 250 participants will start in the race heats. The spectrum ranges from youth categories and hobby classes to the elite. This makes the race both a sporting event for families and an appearance for professionals and semi-professionals from the cycling regions of Rhineland and Eifel. In 2026, Janek Heming won the main race, as reported by the local news portal Blick aktuell.
Parallel to the race, there is a packed family program: a bouncy castle, face painting, a pump track, and other participatory stations make the day attractive for accompanying persons and children as well. This mix of top-class sport and a Volksfest (public festival) atmosphere shapes the character of the event and distinguishes it from pure competition races.
RSV Sturmvogel 1890 e.V. looks back on a history of over 130 years and is one of the most traditional cycling clubs in Rhineland-Palatinate. The club organizes the race every year on its own and is also committed to promoting cycling in the region.
The format combines competition and a Volksfest (public festival) atmosphere. The detailed program, race heats, and registration are communicated by RSV Sturmvogel on rsvsturmvogel.de.
