Traditional city run through the English Garden
The SportScheck RUN Munich is one of the oldest and best-known city runs in Germany. The run has been held annually since 1979 and marks the start of the SportScheck City Run series. The start and finish are at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz on Ludwigstraße, in the heart of the Bavarian capital, Munich.
The route first leads north along Ludwigstraße and then turns into Thiemestraße. The 5 km course runs through the English Garden, past the landmarks Monopteros and Chinese Tower. The longer distances continue through the park to the ice canal; the half marathon runners traverse almost the entire park landscape – one of the greenest running backdrops a German metropolis has to offer.
Four categories are offered: a 2 km children's run, the 5 km run, the 10 km run, and the half marathon over 21 km. This makes the run suitable for hobby runners, families, and ambitious athletes alike. Entry fees range from 6 to 40 Euros depending on the distance.
The long history of the run has also left its mark with prominent figures: in 1989, the then Governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton, completed the 10 km distance in around 52 minutes. Such anecdotes underscore the appeal of the Munich city run far beyond Bavaria.
Organized by SportScheck GmbH, the RUN Munich is a firm fixture in the running calendar and a unifying sporting event for the city. Thousands of participants and spectators make the running day a vibrant festival of popular sports in Munich.
