Summery village festival in the Holle district of Derneburg with clubs, culinary delights, and family program
Derneburg is one of several districts of the municipality of Holle in the Hildesheim district. The village is picturesquely situated on the southern edge of the Salzgitter ridge and is primarily known for its Derneburg Castle – a neoclassical castle with a park, which was long the residence of the painter Georg Baselitz. Today, the castle houses a private art collection. The village itself is small and manageable, with a classic village structure and an active club scene.
The Dorffest Derneburg offers the village's clubs, initiatives, and groups a platform to present themselves to the public. Sports clubs, the fire department, the church community, the local history society, and other stakeholders run stalls, sell food and drinks, provide information about their work, and potentially recruit new members. The proceeds usually benefit the respective clubs or joint village projects.
Classic elements of a Lower Saxony village festival characterize the program: a stage with local music clubs or choirs, dancing and live music in the afternoon and evening, a children's program with a bouncy castle, face painting, and small games, and family activities such as treasure hunts or craft sessions. A communal meal, usually featuring grilled specialties or traditional soups and stews, forms a culinary highlight.
Unlike large city festivals, the Dorffest Derneburg is an event where almost everyone knows almost everyone else. This creates a special, familiar atmosphere that appeals to guests from neighboring villages and the region's cities: a glimpse into authentic Lower Saxony village culture, far from commercial event logic.
Those who want to combine the village festival with a visit to Derneburg Castle or a walk in the castle park should plan a day trip. Its location in the municipality of Holle also makes Derneburg an attractive starting point for hiking and cycling – the Salzgitter and Vorholz ridges, as well as the Innerste reservoir, are nearby.
As in previous years, the festival is organized on a voluntary basis by the village community and the local clubs of Derneburg. The exact program will be announced in the summer of 2026 on the website of the municipality of Holle and in the local media.
The festival follows the classic cornerstones of a Lower Saxony village festival: stage, club stalls, culinary offerings, family program.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
